French windsurfer Pierre Mortefon (F-14) has today proclaimed himself the winner of the Windsurf- World Championship Grand Prix Catalunya Costa Brava 2016 which has been held for six days on the beach of the Cortal de la Devesa de Sant Pere Pescador, in the Gulf of Roses (Costa Brava). In a championship marked by difficult conditions of navigation due to the low intensity of the wind, the 26-year-old French windsurfer has been the most regular in the course of the two contested eliminations, with a first and a fourth place.

Behind Mortefon, Israeli windsurfer Arnon Dagan (ISR-1) - with a fifth and a third place, respectively - and Italian Andrea Cucchi (ITA-1) has been third - with an 8 and a first place.

Pierre Mortefon debuted in the professional windsurfing circuit in 2004 and in the first test of this 2016, held in Korea, was already fourth. This leaves the Costa Brava as the provisional leader of the PWA World Tour ahead of the Italian windsurfer Matteo Iachino (ITA-140), which could only be seventh in the waters of Sant Pere Pescador. Mortefon has confirmed that, one more year, the forecasts in the slalom mode of the professional windsurfing circuit are more open than ever.

The next stop of the PWA World Tour in the slalom mode will be highlighted in Sotavento (Fuerteventura), starting on July 22.
