Nacho Baltasar first leader in the iQFOil Lanzarote
Nacho Baltasar, a member of the Olympic team, leads the first day of competition in Lanzarote. The British Emma Wilson, bronze in Paris 2024, heads the female general
The iQFOiL Games have started today in Marina Rubicón, marking the beginning of the first official tests of the Los Angeles Olympic cycle 2028 for the class. It has been a day of challenging conditions for the hundreds of windsurfers who have gathered in Lanzarote, as the wind has shown several faces testing both competitors and the Committee of Regates: strong wind of 20 knots in the morning, light and changing early in the afternoon, and at the end of the day, again wind above the 20 knots accompanied by great state of the sea... The ability of competitors to adapt has been key.
The morning began with a brief deferral on the ground waiting for the wind to stabilize. At noon, the wind of the North stable around 16-20 knots allowed to fight the first races of the classification series. By falling the wind to 6-8 knots and changing direction, the Regatas Committee quickly announced the change to slalon-type races. Then the wind completely gushed and when it seemed that the day had ended, it went up to 20 knots and continued to rise to 25 - 30, with a significant sea state, which allowed to complete the day with two most demanding races.
The Spanish representative in the last games, Nacho Baltasar, is the first leader of the male fleet with two partial victories, a third and despite a fall and a disappointing 32nd in the last test, which discards.
