These presidential elections endorse the outcome achieved in the General Assembly held on 12 December 2024 at the headquarters of the Federation and in which Hernanz added 62 of the 74 possible vouchers
The auditorium Alfredo Goyeneche, at the headquarters of the Spanish Olympic Committee, has been the place where the presidential elections of the RFEP were held, with two candidates: Javier Hernanz Agüeria and José Alfredo Bea García. After the count of votes, the final result was 59 votes for Javier Hernanz, 11 votes for José Alfredo Bea, and two invalid votes were counted.
In his speech, after being proclaimed president, Javier Hernanz has pointed out that if the past cycle improved the conditions of the athletes and the arbitrators, this is the cycle of "improving also the conditions of the technicians, the clubs and the autonomous communities; we will try to have piragüism anywhere in Spain and therefore we will recover the competitions of rivers and traverses."
Javier Hernanz, 41 years old and natural of Arrionda, was a high-level piragüist and member, for more than three minutes, of the national team in the disciplines of sprint and marathon. Throughout his sports career, he managed to qualify for four Olympic Games, participating in two, those of Athens 2004 and Rio 2016, obtaining in the Brazilian meeting the fifth position in the K-4 1000 m test. He was the first world marathon champion in 2003 in K-2 and bronze medal in the 2018 World Cup of calm waters (K-1 5000 meters), and had added five other metals to different European championships.
In this way, Hernanz remains in office during this Olympic cycle that will end at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles (United States) in 2028. He is the seventh president of the Federation where Hernando Calleja, Manuel Fonseca, José Perurena, Santiago Sanmamed, Juan José Román Manga and Pedro Barrios have been given the position.
