Mini Palma-Melilla: Optimum and Red Hot Mini Pepper win the first stage
The prototype Optimum, tripulated by Mateo Le Calvic and Arthur Meurse, has been the absolute winner of the first stage of the Palma- Melilla-Palma race. Secondly, in the category of serial ships, the Hot Mini Pepper Network has arrived, a team made up of the Italians Nicolo Gamenara and Giacomo Nicchitta, followed closely by the Douze Etolies, by Victor Le Roy and Paul Antonie Jacopy. The competition, organized by the Real Club Náutico de Palma and the Real Club Marítimo de Melilla, is reserved for boats of the Mini class 6.50. The fleet left Palma last Saturday, and the tour has been marked by a mixture of favourable bearing winds and calm areas. This has caused the so-called accordion effect, where the most advanced ships have been temporarily reached by the stragglers when the wind pressure was decreasing at certain points of the journey.
The crossing has left the island of Cabrera for starboard and the island of Alboran for port, with a strict prohibition of entry into Algerian territorial waters. The race, which covers a total of 1,000 miles, will resume next Saturday, November 16, with the return to Palma.
This race is noticeable for the classification of the Mini Transat 2025, a goal that motivates almost all participants. Among the Spanish teams, the first crew to cross the arrival line has been that formed by Tomas Ruiz and Carlos Manera (second in the Mini Transat 2023) on board the Suricate, reaching the fourth position in its class. In the rest of the Spanish fleet, Ramón Ribera and Juan María Adriozola in the Amuitz Sames Company have arrived tenths, Joan Trenchs and Witolp Malecki in the Pachamama have been eleventh, Miguel Rondón and Marc Claramunt in the Kristina II, Duodecimos, and Hugo Ramón with Aleix Sellés have ended in the thirteenth position.
