Departure of the Vendee, Maxicat Victoria begins the Route, Interclubs of the Strait

Nautica Digital Europe

It started from the tenth edition of the solo World Tour

The official departure of the Vendée Globe took place today at 13: 02. The patterns have embarked on the most famous and difficult of the circumnavigations, with more than 24,000 nautical miles, to go alone, without scales and without assistance. Only one ship, Conrad Colman, the MS Amlin, could not cross the line at the time, due to a technical problem.

The light winds, only 4 - 7 knots, and the radiant sun facilitated the entrance in regatta mode, after a particularly emotional morning. The regatists let go between 8: 00 and 10: 00, after saying goodbye to their loved ones on the docks. Then they went down the legendary channel of Les Sables d'Olonne to hundreds of thousands of spectators who had gathered for the occasion first thing in the morning.

The last members of the team on board jumped into the water to be collected by pneumatic support boats five minutes before departure, leaving the patterns finally alone to focus only on the race.

Maxicat Victoria, begins her journey to try to beat the record of the Discovery Road

At 22 hours, 25 minutes and 26 seconds, the Maxicat Victoria of the ocean navigator Alex Pella left Palos de la Frontera in Huelva to try to beat the record of the Discovery Road. In this first part of the route, you must reach the Canary Island of La Gomera.

The crew of the Maxicat Victoria are composed of: Lalou Rousayrol, Alejandro Cantero, Alberto Muñoz, Pablo Santurde, Pilar Casares and Manuel Maqueda. Once they arrive in La Gomera if they will head to the Royal Nautical Club of Gran Canaria, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and tie up to the next meteo window that will allow them to start the second stretch of this route, the one that unites La Gomera and San Salvador, in Bahamas. In order to beat the record, you will have to make both tours in less than 11 days, 7 hours and 40 seconds.

The so-called Discovery Route was the first of the four trips made by Cristóbal Colón. The expedition left Palos de la Frontera, in Huelva, on August 3, 1492, composed of three ships: Santa María, Pinta and la Niña and saw land on the island of San Salvador on October 12, 1492... so one of the largest milestones in the world began: the discovery of a new continent.
