Abanca Week: the Dragons 12 Boat open the Cidade da Coruña

It will be the first time in its already centenary history that the Royal Nautical Club of La Coruña, one of the most prestigious nautical clubs on the national scene, will organize a competition of Olympic sport, most lauded in history: of piragüism. It was the great news offered in his words by the councilman of culture and tourism of the Herculine Consistory: Gonzalo Castro, on the occasion of the presentation of a great event in which his department has played a strong role; the Cidade da Coruña de Piragüismo, which is one of the pieces of the concept A Coruña Nautical Festival immersed in the multinational reference of our country, in the Abanca Week. The event was also attended by the municipal sports officer Manuel Vázquez, as well as the president of the Galician Federation of Piragüismo Alfredo Bea.

The objective is clear: to strengthen the tourist possibilities of the herculine city in the low season, with a clear commitment to the sea... having clear what is a reality: that La Coruña, has an undisputed quality as a nautical base; and there is no doubt that for the sailors and regatists that the city has an attractive quality for many virtues: an incomparable ria with a generous nature, a geographical point with very good communications: that they go from its proximity to Asturias and Portugal... as well as to Santiago de Compostela and the Rías Baixas; also its enclave in a great hotel with great prices, which offers a great deal of services.

In the quote that will inaugurate the project, a fashion class in the Pyragüism: the dragons. It will be a half of a hundred crews of 12 palists (plus two alternates) who compete in the waters of the Coruñesa Bay: in the Pista de San Antón, with the beginning of the competition at the edge of the ten and a half in the morning... the first to be made to the sea: the Veteran Women's Class seven fighting teams, which will be divided into two sides.

In the category the girls of the School of Piragüismo City of Pontevedra, Club Breogán do Grove, Náutico Folixa, as Bolboretas and the Club Auga (both of La Coruña), the Asturias Dragon Boat and the Club Piraguismo Rías Baixas de Boiro.

After them turn for the male veterans, with Cabanas de Ferrolterra, Folixa, Pontevedra, Olívico de Vigo, Breogán de O Grove, Auga and Asturias.

So until all the bands that will run until one afternoon of the rest of the female, male and mixed categories are completed; it is common that the one that closes the competition will be the BCS, the dragons that are applying their activity as breast cancer therapy, in line with European guidelines and the Spanish council itself.

The teams that compete in this category will be Bolboretas 1, Cidade de Lugo, Bolboretas 2, Folixa and Auga; in a band that will start at one minus five.

It is planned that October is the month of breast cancer, which will read the Coruñesas Montse Vázquez and Soledad Tohux of Club Bolboretas de La Coruña, then the award of prizes is held.

In November, a cultural event and two sports competitions were completed. On November 7, in the Abanca de la Marina auditorium, the round table La Nautica del Siglo XI, moderated by journalist Andrés Ríos, will have as speakers the presidents of the Spanish Federations of sailing, rowing, pyragüism, surfing, motoronautics and náutico-wakeboard ski.

As early as the weekend of November 16 and 17 will be the turn for the Isabel Zendal Regata for female crews of Vigo, Baiona, Sanxenxo, La Coruña, Gijón, Santander and Getxo, among others, that will compete in races in J80, by system of liguilla.

At the end of the days 23 and 24, the base sailing competition will be held with more than 150 ships of boys and girls, who will look for a place in the next national and continental dates of the optimal class. Event named after Aurelio Fernández Lage.
