The 34th edition of the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup brings together an exquisite collection of ships over 60 feet long, for a week of competition in waters of Porto Cervo, in Sardinia.... the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda celebrates this year 40 years of association with Rolex, official sponsor of the race and of the newly created Rolex IMA Maxi 1 World Championship, which will put into play the first world crown among the most powerful maxis... the Spanish representation includes the V68 Pelotari Project by Andrés Varela and half a hundred crew distributed in a twenty of authentic floating jewels

More than 40 ships are more than 60 feet: from the small Blue Oyster and the 143 feet of the majestic J Class Svea form in the pants of the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, to compete for the thirty-fourth edition of the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup... created in 1980, the queen of the international calendar of large slurs has been with Rolex's continued sponsorship since 1985.

In 2024, Costa Smeralda and Rolex celebrate 40 years of association. This strong link is based on shared values of excellence, innovation, technology, respect for the sea and support for next generations. A successful collaboration that began in 1984 with the Rolex Swan Cup and was consolidated the following year with the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup. Four decades later, both events continue to be part of the Swiss watch sailing dossier, and in 2024 they are reinforced by the newly created Rolex IMA 1 World Championship, which will play the first world crown for the most powerful maxis in Porto Cervo this week.

The Spanish print of this edition is impressive. Among the fleet, the Pelotari Project by Andrés Varela Entrecanales is the only Spanish flag ship. The design Mark Mills V68, 21 meters long and 5.5 meters long, sails under the grompola of the Nautical Club of Pollensa and competes in Maxi 3 class with a mostly Spanish crew that includes legends such as the Olympic champions Luis Doreeste and Domingo Manrique. Doreste, team tactical, is delighted to compete in Porto Cervo

The Spanish contribution also reaches the design section. This edition includes three boats from the Botin Partners studio of the Cantabre Marcelino Botín - 26 meters Deep Blue, and the 22 meters Spirit of Lorina and Jolt - and two created by the Basque Javier Jáudenes - 33 meters WinWin and 23 meters Open Season-. Jáudenes competes precisely on board the Open Season, one of the last ships to join the fleet, which comes with revolutionary solutions for sustainability, such as its electric motorization supported by solar panels or its cork cover.
