On October 5, 20 cultural associations, nautical and rowing clubs of the Ria de Vigo launched the first Nautical Journey in commemoration of the Battle of Rande

The Battle of Rande, which took place in October 1702, certainly put Vigo on the map. The Indian fleet had been delayed for several reasons for several years... and that year, with the delay, the riches that were usually used in the traffic from the Americas were built up to Seville, the seat of the Spanish organizations of those distant times.

There were many doubts on the part of the Spanish expedition, in the fear of being in Seville with the British fleet, which was also organizing a joint action with that of the Netherlands... that's why the Ria de Vigo was chosen as a surprise option for those who wanted to take the great treasure that would come from the Caribbean. The Spanish Government, in order to further strengthen the stregia, closed an agreement with the French Navy, to act as protectors of the Spanish expedition and yet perfectly organized it was on its way to Vigo with the Flea de la Plata from the New Continent.

The incomprehensible problems began with the entire fleet inside the Ria de Vigo, in the area known as the Ensenada de San Simón... because from the central power it was forced to recover the expedition of hundreds of cars that were loaded with silver above all, had already left the province of Pontevedra for the Spanish capital... this unfortunate decision made by the protests of the House of Indias, which demanded that the goods should go by sea to Seville, as it was legislated. And from here on it is well known what happened... going back to the expedition that was at the height of Melon (60 Km from Vigo), the allies arrive... fighting some defending and others trying to take what was theirs... and disaster for Spain. Great feast of the Anglo-Dutch fleet with a huge loot... parties in the UK, is called one of the main London streets Vigo Street, Queen Ana of England orders to coin legal course coins under the name Vigo under her bust...

This is why a group of cultural views, nautical clubs and rowing clubs have decided to organize for this next 5 October within the schedule of the Abanca Week, the so-called I Nautical Trip Bouzas- Rande... with the support of Vanguard Marine, Abanca, Gadis and Co.
