Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup: 40 years with the Smeralda Coast

The Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup debuts a number of new launches each year, surprising interpretations of the latest ideas in design and construction of large lengths attracted by an intense competition that exercises an unparalleled field of essays.
Excellence has always been associated with Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup. For several decades, this illustrious race has been one of the most prominent events in the international sailing calendar. The vision of the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda and Rolex, which this year celebrate the 40th anniversary of their close collaboration, forged from the beginning the solid foundations of an event with an influential role in the development of a sport that Swiss watchmaker has supported for more than six decades. The thirty-fourth edition of this classic of large length will be held from 8 to 14 September.
The most emblematic Maxi will be on the line of departure: from Boomerang and Kialoa IV in the 1980s, to Morning Glory and Sayonara in the 1990s, through the various versions of Alfa Romeo, Magic Carpet, Highland Fling and Rambler since the turn of the century.
In recent years, the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup has regularly attracted a fleet around the 40 ships with length between 18.29 meters (60 feet, the minimum required to be able to participate) and more than 40 meters (131 feet) which includes some of the most impressive boats in the world. This year will not be an exception: the majestic J Class will set the upper end in length with the 43.6 meters (143 feet) of the colossal Svea.
As a novelty this edition, a select group of powerful ships from 24.4 meters (80 feet) to 30.5 meters (100 feet) will be played the first title of the Rolex IMA Maxi 1 World Championship (Rolex IMA Maxi 1 World Championship), which will further contribute to increasing the attractiveness of the race. Ten ships will compete for this first absolute title: the Wally 93 Bullitt, the JV82 Capricorno, the Baltic 85 Deep Blue, the Wally 82 Django HF, the Wally Cento Galateia, Magic Carpet Cubed and V, the Farr 100 Leopard 3, the ClubSwan 80 My Song, the 100-foot SHK Scallywag.
