The marathon now gives a truce in the calendar pending the World Championship, which will be held the third week of September in Croatia

Spain has concluded in the first position of the European Marathon Championship in the World Cup. The Hungarian and French selection, which amounted to 144, has been imposed by 192 points. In total, our country leaves this championship held in Poznan, Hungary with a total of 11 medals, two oars, three plates and six bronzes, being the second nation in the medallion by number of priests only over 18 in Hungary. The combination led by José Andrés Román has added these medals to the 28 tests in which our palists were present.

The championship started well, with a bronze in the C1 Junior Female achieved by the palist of the Pontequures Candela Romero Nautical Club. Bronze was also achieved in the short career of the Junior female K1, thanks to the good performance of Laura Figaredo. The one of the asturian of Villaviciosa El Gaitero managed to impose in the sprint for the third position the Swedish Moa Nilsson, and entered into goal with a time of 18 minutes and 22 seconds, 15 of the winner, the lusa María Gomes.

On the first day of competition, the afternoon day set for Spain the first silver. Ignacio Calvo got it in the short race of the C1 test. Excellent result for that of the Club Escuela Piraguismo Aranjuez that was close to being accompanied in the podium by the other Spanish in the test, the Galician Diego Romero, who finished fourth in this final. In the short tests of K1, two other chocolate medals were achieved, in the female Eva Barrios and, in the male, Adrián Martín remained within seconds of bronze.

On Friday 26, Kevin Longo extended the number of medals with a new bronze in the C1 Sub 23 test. Its time of one hour, 38 minutes and five seconds, was 1: 42 from the Polish Wilga and 1: 04 from the Polish Pluzsik. We had to wait for the last race of the day to enjoy a new medal, on this occasion of silver obtained by Joaquín Iglesias in the K1 Sub 23 test. The one of the Rías Baixas Boiro (1 hour, 58 minutes 26 seconds), entered into goal 48 seconds from the Danish Knudsen, who hung the gold, and defeated in goal the Hungarian Sellyei, to which he defeated in a very tight sprint, resolved in favor of the Spanish for only five tenths.

On Saturday in the C1 test, the first Spanish double podium was obtained in one of the tests in which Spain always stands out in the marathon, the male C1. Tono Campos was again the best and proclaimed champion of Europe in a trial in which he signed a time of 1 hour, 52 minutes and 34 seconds, overcoming the lush Lacerda in nine seconds and his club partner Diego Romero in half a minute.

Saturday morning ended with the female K1 test where Hungarian Vanda Kizsli continues to show that she is the best in the world in this test, however, and despite winning with more than two and a half minutes the race (2 hours, 6 minutes, 10 seconds), our also fuel-free Tania Alvarez hung a silver earned on the same finish line to the other Hungarian, Voros, whom she defeated in a tight esprint for just a second.

In the Sunday day that closed the championship, it was saved with three medals. The first, that of the dupla that form Tono Campos and Diego Romero, with a bronze at the end of the C2. The second, the title of European champions for the dupla that form Irati Osa and Arantza Toledo, the Spanish have clearly imposed on the two Hungarian ships to add the second golden metal for our country in the Senior K2 and to resell from the fourth place they achieved last year in Denmark in the World Championship. The competition for Spain was closed with the bronze of the Asterians Miguel Llorens and Alberto Plaza in the senior K2, a test with a spectacular final in which the first four ships arrived with a margin of two seconds, being the victory for the Danes Mareti and Knudsen (2: 06.25) and the silver for the Galios Urban and Candy.
