In Palma all ready for a new edition of the most important cruise race in Spain and certainly one of the most outstanding of the European calendar... if not the most currently... and more like this occasion that classes as important as the swans family, the Swan, like the fashion monotypes, the J70, will have their world championships in these waters in the months of September and October.
In competition an incredible level, with a mass of cruises that slowly exceed 100 units, with these classes in action:
ClubSwan 50
In its seventh participation, the ClubSwan 50 class will contribute seven teams of four nationalities, sailed by highly professional crews, including world champions, Olympic medalists or American's Cup winners. The two most lauded teams in the class in Palma will not be missing: Marcus Brennecke's Hatari (winner of the last two editions) and Hendrik Brandis's Earlybird (winner in 2017, 2018 and 2021).
ClubSwan 42
ClubSwan 42 is a 13-meter-long ship presented in 2006 for sailing by specially amateur crews. Although it is a very demanding model for competition in ORC format, it forms its own class in the Mapfre King's Cup as a monotype since 2017. This year it will bring together seven teams of five nationalities, including the winner of the last two editions and champion of the class's 2023 circuit, the Nadir de Pedro Vaquer.
J70
29 teams will fight for victory in a class of the most equal. As expected, Spain will be the most represented nation with a total of eight ships facing units from Brazil, Mexico, Monaco, United Kingdom, United States, Turkey, Germany, Australia, Austria and Switzerland. The current world champion, Charles Thompson's British Brutus III, will not miss, who will have in front of the Spanish Patakin great connoisseur of Palma Bay and defender of the title of King Mapfre Cup champion. The Spaniards who also know what it is to raise the trophy in Ses Voltes are Marcelo Baltzer and Juan Calvo, from the RCN of Denia and who already won in 2021. Another podium team is the monegasque led by Giancomo Serena di Lapigio.
ORC
In ORC3, including the Witch, of the Gaditano Federico Linares, Meerblick of Gaby Pohlmann of the Real Nautical Club of Palma, the Vrolijk 37 almeriense Peneque pro de Miguel Angel Molares, the Salona 37 puntaumbrieño Varicentro D6 of Manuel Sanz or the X-37 of Puerto Sherry Vergara of Rafael Sanz. A total of 17 units from three countries.
19 teams from 7 countries will compete in ORC2... among them the Italian Guardamago, which was unbeatable in 2023 by accounting for first positions in all the tests of ORC 3, is again presented as one of the favorites for this year, although unlike last year in this class will no longer be of the fastest in the fleet, so you will have more traffic in the field of races. There will be another italo / Argentine unit, the Geex de Angelo Lobinu and Lucas Massa.
22 ships from a dozen countries in the most international class... among the inscriptions for the Odilo ORC 1 There are two Grand Soleil 44 units: the British Andiamo of David Hall and the Puerto Rican Lazy Dog of Sergio Gramoso. Another of the favorites who have already enjoyed the success of getting on the stage of the award delivery in Ses Voltes is Jorge Martínez Doreeste. This year his team disembarks on a Bothin & Carkeek 46 by the shipowner Xiqui Mas with the Varador who will have his hand in hand with the DK 46 "HM Hospitales -Hydra," with Fernando León to the commanders.
After the days of Sunday and Monday reserved for the delivery of documentation, the registration of the ships and the corresponding checks by the meters. On Monday the tests for the ORC and Swan from Tuesday to Saturday... are programmed barlovento-sotavento or coastal regatas as provided for in the Regata Announcement (from which we hang for its complexity a PDF of the same, which details the five-day planning of competition for each of the categories. The J70 and the women's races, have limited inspections on Monday, also started with barloventos-sotaventos on Tuesday. A whole monster on an organizational level.
