This new race will have half of the regatists in the crews and a powerful sustainability component during the navigation between two iconic cities

The Ocean Race announces a new transatlantic race with full crew for the IMOCA class in the summer of 2026: The Ocean Race Atlantic - New York to Barcelona. The event will be a celebration of the importance of the sea and of marine sustainability initiatives and a window for high-level sport, and competing teams and regatists.

The Ocean Race Atlantic will connect New York, the main American metropolis, with the European fashion capital, the Catalan city of Barcelona. It will be the first point-to-point race in the more than 50 years of The Ocean Race history.

This new event will take place one year after The Ocean Race Europe, which will take place from Kiel in 2025 and will precede the next edition of the world return from Alicante (Spain) in 2027.

The IMOCA class ships, flying and with fils, will compete with full crew in this new transatlantic race. For the first time, the crew of the race, composed of four crew members, will be composed of 50% of two women and two men.

The regatists will participate in a comprehensive scientific programme throughout the route and will collect valuable data, which are critical to supporting scientists studying the impact of climate change on the ocean. This will include the participation of Nautic schools and schools with the aim of promoting knowledge about the sea and sailing between children and young people.
