The Rolex TP52 World Championship Newport RI 2024 was fired with an intense final day of three tests that completed the ten scheduled for the TP52 World Cup in the waters of Naragansett Bay. The wind met in its meeting with the fleet of the 52 Super Series and, although unstable and complicated to interpret, blew with sufficient intensities to ensure a good show in TP52 format.

Gladiator was going out into the water as a leader with an advantage over the American Takashi Okura Sled and eight over the Harm Müller Spreer Platoon Aviation. The team of shipowner Tony Langley and the puppet Guillermo Parada, in which the canary David Vera competes, focused on keeping his two rivals aft.

2024-07-20: The Rolex TP52 World Championship 2024: Sleed to one point from Gladiator

The Takashi Okura Sled was the best of the penultimate day of competition and presented his candidacy for a title he already achieved in 2021. The New York Yacht Club team took advantage of the two disputed tests to place itself at a point of the leader, the Gladiator of the British Tony Langley, who seeks his first world crown. Sled went safe through the line and found the shortest and fastest way to the first beacon of the route. After Takashi Okura's ship, the emotion was in the duel between Gladiator and Phoenix, resolved in an intense battle of maneuvers on the final stretch that allowed the British team to add a valuable second and remain solid at the head of the classification. The victory of Sled and the tenth position of Alegre took the local team to the second provisional square, four points from Gladiator.

The seventh race of the championship began with 8-11 knots of wind. Phoenix snuck into the bow of Sled on the arrival at the first beacon, while Alegre, who arrived fourth, received a painful penalty as he was lost in the buoy approach and ran out of options. In the final section, the Phoenix leader was betting on the right side of the field, while Sled and Quantum Racing powered by American Magic were looking to surprise him on the left. We had to wait until the crossing between the two to check the success of Phoenix, which achieved a hard-working victory by his shipowner and tymonel, Tina Plattner, the first of the season for the South African team.

Sled (with a first and a second) and Phoenix (with a third and a first) were the best teams of this penultimate day. World champion 2021 managed to cut four points to the leader Gladiator, who did enough to defend his position at the head of the provisional. The team of the shipowner Tony Langley and the timonel Guillermo Parada face the final day with a point of advantage over Sled and eight over the champion 2023, Platoon Aviation.

2024-07-19: Rolex TP52 World Championship 2024: Gladiator, holds as leader

Platoon Aviation wins its first victory of the year at the Rolex TP52 World Championship 2024

The third day of the Rolex TP52 World Championship competition was resolved with a single test that allowed the German Platoon Aviation to score its first partial victory of the year. World champion 2023 showed his candidacy for the defense of the title by dominating his rivals in complicated navigation conditions. After three days and five partials, Gladiator retains his leadership for the minimum over Alegre.

After two days of complicated conditions, the wind in Nagacansett Bay kept the fleet on the ground for about five hours before setting the minimum necessary to ensure a fair race. The fleet was able to fight only one of the two scheduled tests, which began at 17: 00 (local time, 23: 00 in Peninsular Spain) with 5-7 knots of wind and considerable waves.

Following the dynamics that allowed him to win the last three tests, Gladiator occupied the left end of the line, while on the opposite he was looking at the Platoon Aviation bow to lead the first meters. In this case, the success was for the German ship, with the tactic of the Italian Vasco Vascotto and the strategy of the Majorcan Joan Calafat, as could be seen at the end of the crucial first stretch. Platoon Aviation mounted buoy first, with 27 seconds of advantage over Alegre and 47 over Sled. The order would not be altered in the step by goal, which resulted in the important first partial victory this season for the defender of the world title and champion of the 52 Super Series 2023, the Platoon Aviation of the shipowner and tymonel Harm Müller-Spreer.

The fifth position of Gladiator was sufficient for the British team to defend (for the least) its leadership in the provisional Rolex TP52 World Championship 2024. After three days and five partials, a single point separates Tony Langley's team from Andy Soriano's Alegre, who recovered three points from the leader and maintains his candidacy for the title with a discreet but effective job.

The competition continues on Friday, with first departure of the day scheduled from 13: 00 (local time, 19: 00 h in Peninsular Spain).

2024-07-18: Rolex TP52 World Championship 2024: Gladiator, new leader

The Gladiator of the British shipowner Tony Langley signed a perfect card on the second day of the Rolex TP52 World Championship, with two possible two wins that place him as the new leader of the TP52 World Cup (Photo Nico Martínez)

In the first departure of the day, Gladiator repeated the strategy that allowed the British team to take the last test of the previous day, placing itself at the left end of the line to control that side of the field in the very important initial meters. Again, it was right for the ship of the shipowner Tony Langley and the timonel Guillermo Parada, who remained in the head group until riding leader in the first step by buoy, followed by Vayu and Platoon Aviation. The instability of a breeze that lost intensity caused constant changes in positions in the battle for the third square, with a slow-motion final stretch that did not prevent Gladiator from scoring an excellent victory. Vayu's second position allowed the Whitcraft family team to temporarily take the lead from Sled, which could only be ninth.

The second test of the day required two exits. In the first, the Regatas Committee overturned the wind when the fleet had been only half a stretch. After about an hour of waiting, the wind stabilized around the ten knots, perfect to start. Once again, Gladiator fought to occupy the left end of the line; once again, the British team was riding the buoy at the end of the first stretch, followed on this occasion by Phoenix, Alegre and a Quantum Racing powered by American Magic that would recover two positions in the built-in to place second. The Langley- Parada tandem was able to defend its position for the rest of the tour, and returned to the New York Yacht Club with a perfect card: two of two. Second finished the Quantum Racing powered by American Magic by Doug DeVos, followed by Andy Soriano's Joy

In addition to the first four partials of the ten scheduled for the week, Gladiator ascends to the first position of the Rolex TP52 World Championship provisional. The British team has won three of the four contested sleeves, leading by four points to their compatriot Alegre (6 + 3 today) and by six to Vayu (2 + 8). Sled, leader of the first day, fell to third position and Quantum Racing powered by American Magic, second best card of the day (3 + 2) is now fifth, nine points from the leader.

2024-07-17: Rolex TP52 World Championship 2024: Takashi Okura's Sled First Leader

The first day of the TP52 World Cup competition was filled with two tests that demonstrated the importance of regularity in a fleet marked by equality. Two second positions were sufficient to return to the New York Yacht Club as the first leader of the championship (Photo Nico Martínez)

The beginning of the Rolex TP52 World Championship 2024 met expectations, providing an exciting TP52 class show in Narragansett Bay... the first test of the World Cup served to adapt to the wind and sea conditions... at the exit, Vayu occupied the left end of the line and Gladiator bet on the opposite. The success of the Thai team, which completed the first of the four sections of the tour, would soon be clear.

The protagonist of the following was to be Alegre, who after riding seventh in the buoy pass, went to the stern of the Whitcraft family ship. Sled, a great connoisseur of the Newport race field as a local team, was right on the left in the third quarter of the tour, exceeding Alegre to stalk the leader at the beginning of the final stretch. An exciting end-up turned Thai and American to the front, but finally it would be victory for Vayu for seven seconds. Today it was a month of its historic first title at an event of the 52 Super Series, and it seemed that the Thai team was still on a streak.

For the second test, the wind had fallen in intensity to the range of 8-11 knots. Phoenix made an off-line and had to return, while on this occasion it was Gladiator who occupied the position at the left end of the exit to get the favored side of the field. Tony Langley's team, typed by the Argentine ace Guillermo Parada and with the canary David Vera on board, was soon to take charge, followed in this case by Sled and Alegre. The leader would not stop waiting until he had a solid victory, while his rivals were fighting for the second position. Gladiator set Sled for a minute, which was confirmed as the best ship of the day. Third ended the title defender, Platoon Aviation.

At the end of the first day, the Rolex TP52 World Championship provisional is headed by Sled. Takashi Okura's team, who sails under the New York Yacht Club's grympola, is looking at home for its second TP52 World Crown after the 2021 season in which it was also proclaimed champion of the 52 Super Series. For the moment, it has three points of advantage over its immediate persecute, Andy Soriano's Alegre, and four over the Vayu, which seems to maintain the excellent state in a way demonstrated in the previous event last month in these same waters.

2024-07-16: Rolex TP52 World Championship 2024 is played in Newport

The Rolex TP52 World Championship Newport RI 2024 will be held from Saturday, when the New York Yacht Club will welcome the delivery
in which the new TP52 world champion of the 2024 edition will be crowned

Everything is ready in Newport to host this week the tenth edition of the TP52 World Championship. The Platoon Aviation of the German shipowner Harm Müller-Spreer defends the title in a powerful fleet of ten teams of seven nationalities that will fight up to ten sleeves over five days, until next Saturday.

The official training day confirmed that the title struggle has never been more open. The official training of the Rolex TP52 World Championship carried out the usual choreography... with the teams they fought both outbound and two-section sleeves.

The wind blew with 12 knots of intensity accompanied by wave in the bay of Narragansett and allowed the program to meet with victories for the American Sled of Takashi Okura and the British Gladiator of Tony Langley.

These results do not add points to the team's locker, but they served as an appetizer to the equal battle for the title that will begin tomorrow, starting at noon... over five days a maximum of ten tests will be held, without discards.
