The Real de Regatas de Cartagena has been the framework and scenario chosen by the students of the IES Politécnica de Cartagena for the official launch of the Isaac Peral submarine. A replica built at 1: 5 scale, always based on the original planes. It has a length of 4.7 meters and a sleeve of 59 centimeters and is equipped with each and every element that was carrying the original. Its construction started in 2007 and the first tests were carried out at the educational centre itself, in a tank specially designed for this purpose. The submarine is operated by remote control given its small dimensions.

The event, being a tribute of the students of the IES Polytechnic to Isaac Peral, has been attended by Rosa Peñalver, President of the Regional Assembly; Mª Isabel Sánchez, Counsellor of Education and Universities; Fernando Mateo, Director General of Educational Quality and Vocational Training; Francisco Aznar, Council of Urbanismo; Ricardo Segado Consejal de Cultura de Cartagena; representatives of the Spanish Navy, as well as of the companies with training agreements with students, teachers and students of the IES Polytechnic and a representation of the RCR Cartagena, headed by its president, Miguel Ángel Celarán. The director of the I.E.S Politécnico de Cartagena, María Rosa Laborda, has commented that this work shows that the center is committed to the way of teaching the twenty-first century based on challenges and that this motivates students in a special way. According to the director, they opt for cooperative work based on other previous work that has been carried out in the educational centre since 2007.

A PROJECT OF POLITECHNICAL IES

The training cycles of the IES Polytechnic proponents of this project are those of the Higher Degree of Electronic Maintenance and of the Prevention of Industrial Risks, and the cycles of the Middle Degree of Welding, Calderería and Carrocería. In the past, other projects have been carried out that have served as a basis for the following:
- The 1: 2 scale reproduction of the original submarine, carried out by the faculty and students, currently exposed in the Alfonso XII Campus.
- The collaboration of the teaching team and the students in the restoration of the original submarine, which received the AR & PA Prize for Restoration and Intervention in Cultural Heritage.
- Reproduction at scale 1: 5 static, predecessor of the current dynamic, and which is located in the foreground of the area of administration of the Polytechnic IS.
