In Hungary the Spanish team fought without complexes and 6 medals were achieved, before the best
Six medals to remain among the main powers of piragüism on the old continent. That could be the four-day round of competition in the Hungarian city of Szeged, which culminated in two new metals for the Spanish delegation. Antía Jácome was again the protagonist of her second medal, this time a silver at the C1 200, and once again claimed to be one of the great national team's winners at the Paris Games.
A powerful race that ended with the victory of the Polish Borowska with a time of 46,332 seconds. Jácome came out in a flickering way at the beginning of the race and managed to follow the pace imposed by the champion of Europe. This medal is the sixth to be obtained by the Spanish representative in the last three editions of the European Championship.
Spain had the option of a medal in the male K4 500, but the level exhibited by the main European powers was too much for a Spanish boat with much way ahead. In the evening day it was the turn of the long distance (5000 meters) and Spain competed with four palists. Jaime Duro and Cristina Soutelo were our representatives at the C1 final, and both ended in seventh position. In male K1, Pedro Vázquez could not do much in a final that was decided in the sprint of the last meters.
There, the Portuguese Pimenta, the Hungarian Varga and the Danish Pedersen took the three steps of the podium, reaching the goal in less than a second. In the female category, the Asterian Miriam Vega rolled the bronze, but could not fight the final sprint in a test that was taken by the Hungarian Kohalmi followed by the Swedish Andersson and the Norwegian Virik.
The Spanish Paracanoe also had a great party ending. David González Mella joined the second podium drawer to add the fourth medal for Spain in this championship. The Tui palist has won four international medals in just over a year competing in this mode... the next thing in the Olympic Sprint will be the Olympic Games in Paris. Spain will continue to dream great to make history in the French capital.
