It's an eminently tactical class. It is not fast, and it primes the tactic in race, so it has a high formative value. Three of the four regatists with the highest number of Olympic medals in history, Torben Grael with five, Robert Scheidt with five, and Paul Bert Elvstrøm with four, were formed in the Snipe class (the other regatist with the highest number of medals is Ben Ainslie), and five members of the class have been elected World Regatist of the Year of the ISAF since the creation of this award in 1994 (Mark Reynolds, Robert Scheidt, Torben Grael, Anna Tunnicliffe and Santiago Lange) (RCN Palma Archive)
No doubt the snipes is the first light-sailing ship with a massive projection at the international level, which according to the most well-understood it was right when it did not want to be Olympic, nor did it want to vary its approaches as a fundamental monotype, and on few occasions it was denied modernist ideas that proposed to incorporate the spinnaker into its competition candles, in the event of what happened to the vaurien, which eventually made it a declining class in most of the world.
The engineer William Crosby created the Snipe, who received at the Sarasota assembly of the Florida West Coast Racing Association in 1931 the necessary support... only three years later he organized the New Rochelle Yatch Club, in Long Island Sound, the first world-renowned and won the American William Brace... a championship in which two countries and 14 snipes participated...
But when it really became a true World Championship with international status was at the end of World War II, in 1946, in the edition held at Lake Chautuqua, organized by the Lake Chautuqua Yacht Club, when, for the first time, participants from other countries, in addition to the Americans... already in 1947 the first edition was held outside the United States, in Lake Leman, Switzerland, organized by the Geneva Nautical Society... in which 13 countries participated.
With the snipes launched as a class, the Spanish fleet that had been founded in Vigo at the headquarters of the Royal Nautical Club in 1941, is able to organize a world... that is held in the Mediterranean organized by the Real Nautical Club of Palma in 1948, in which ten countries participate. It would be the first of five others to be awarded to Santander (1955), Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (1965), Málaga (1973), Santiago de la Ribera (1999) and La Coruña (2017).
To date the United States is the country with the largest number of organized worlds: 16, ahead of Spain and Brazil (6)... others that have been host are Portugal, Japan and Denmark (2)... and with a Swiss edition, Cuba, Argentina, Monaco, France, Bahamas, Angola, Norway and Sweden.

The Nautico de Vigo had the honour of being the one who managed to form the Fleet No. 1 of Spain... and the Nautico de Palma was the first to organize a World Cup in Spain... to the great extent clear... ABC dedicated one of his covers... and even composed in Pasodoralista in honor of the world's
For Spaniards who have reached world gold, they were Allende (1957), Félix Gancedo (1973 and 1975) and Alfredo González (2022). To highlight that they have achieved the planetary scepter three times: the Brazilian patron Alex Schmidt (1959-1961-1963) and the Argentine Santi Lange (1985, 1993 and 1995).
