Xammar and Brugman, 470 European Champions in the Great Motte of Cannes
The Spanish Jordi Xammar and Nora Brugman proclaim new 470 European champions, putting the gold brooch on the race calendar prior to the Paris Olympic Games, to which they arrive as continental and world champions.
The wind has continued to condition the race program in Cannes waters, where since last Tuesday the 470 European Championship has been held, forcing the postponement of the Medal Race until three o'clock in the afternoon.
The crew of Jordi Xammar and Nora Brugman took the exit of the final race as the leader of the classification, with the silver medal secured and the gold at hand, twelve points from the French Lecointre and Moin and twenty from the Portuguese Costa and Joao.
In a Medal that has been decided in the last section, the head of the fleet in the first barlovento beacon was led by the French Pacaud and De Gennes, followed by the Spanish, while the French Lecointre and Mion, the only ones with the possibility of taking the title from them, were in the fifth position.
With these results, Xammar and Brugman proclaimed themselves champions of Europe, while the Portuguese Costa and Joao took the silver from the French Lecointre and Mion who closed the Medal Race with a seventh place.
Jordi and Nora agreed that "it has been a difficult week, but winning European and global in the same year of the Games gives us a lot of confidence for what comes."
In the Grand-Motte, the 49er European Championship has been closed with two more races for the Silver group, in which the brothers Martin and Jaime Wizner have closed their partials with an 8-1, 28th of the general. The second Spanish crew in the classification is that of Albert Torres and Elías Aretz, 33rd, followed by Pol Marsans and José Manuel Ruiz, 45th, and Conrad Konitzer and Antonio Martínez, 54th. The new European champions are the British Peters and Stortt, with the absolute victory of the Uruguayan Umpierre and Diz.
In the 17 Nacra World Championship, where Tara Pacheco and Andrés Barrio closed their participation in the tenth place yesterday, the Italians Tita and Banti revalidate their world title.
And in the 49er FX European Championship, where yesterday we met the twenty-fourth place of Támara Echegoyen and Paula Barceló, the continental title has been for the Belgians Maenhaut and Geurts.
