The Spanish Optimist Championship of Alicante opens the doors of the World and the European

The Real Club de Regatas de Alicante has everything ready to host the Spanish Championship of Optimist, one of the reference classes in the sailing and in which will be the best regatists of the country, as it is a race by selection in which each territorial federation brings the best of its autonomous ranking.

The race is of crucial importance because of the Championship and the Spanish Cup, which will be in April- May in Almería, will be the selection of the regatists that will represent Spain in the World Championship, which will be held in Mar del Plata (Argentina) in December and the European Championship in Carrara (Italy) in July.

In Alicante, teams of ten autonomous federations have been classified: Andalusia (20), Baleares (20), Canarias (20), Cantabria (7), Catalunya (20), Comunitat Valenciana (20), Galicia (18), Madrid (6), Murcia (10) and País Vasco (11). In addition to the classified ones there is a series of wild cards, two for the RCR Alicante, an organizing club and one for the Federation of Vela de la Comunitat Valenciana, one for Real Federación Española de Vela and six for Aguas interior.

The Spanish Championship is very interesting, as the level of the fleet is very high, among others the winner of the Optimise Excellence Cup, Catalan Iker Mújica or European bronze in 2023, the Alicantino Mateo Carbonell, who was the first winner of the Equalite Week Nautical 2024, held last week in these same waters of the bay of Alicante.

The teams with the maximum number of participants are Andalusia, Balearic Islands, Canary Islands, Catalonia and Comunitat Valenciana.
