After the end of the Olympic Windsurfing World on February 3, Marina Rubicón, south of Lanzarote Island, is back in charge and hosts a new Olympic class world championship under the umbrella of Lanzarote International Regatta. This time will be the turn of the male double class 49er and the female class 49erFX, in which again there will be a major struggle as there are few opportunities to be in Paris 2024.

The championship will be composed of two phases: a classification (from 5 to 7 March) and a final (from 8 to 10 March). After the classification series, the top 25 crews will sail in the gold fleet. On Sunday, March 10, the final Medal Race will be held, in which only the top 10 classified participate, scores double and the result is not disposable.

In 49erFX, always as favorites, there are Brazilian women Martinez Grael and Kahena Kunze, Olympic champions in Rio 2016 and in Tokyo 2020. They will also fight to revalidate the title obtained in The Hague in 2023 the Swedish Vilma Bobeck / Rebecca Netzler, while the Spanish Támara Echegoyen and Paula Barceló, with the square in Paris 2024 already confirmed, are always in the quinielas and will count on the heat of playing at home.

In the male fleet of 49er there are also many candidates for the title and a favorite clear: the team formed by the Dutch Bart Lambriex and Floris van der Werken, winners of the last three championships of the class world. There is also no lack of the rest of the members of the European and world podiums of 2023, such as the champions of Europe Lucas Rual and Emile Amoros (FRA). Diego Botín and Florian Trittel, bronze in the last World Cup of 49er, are the Spanish baton.

10 Spanish crews in liza
Spain already has a square and confirmed crews for Paris 2024: the canton Diego Botín and the Catalan Florian Trittel will be the Spanish representatives in 49er, while the Galician Támara Echegoyen and the Majorcan Paula Barceló will do the same in 49erFX.
