The last race held between Topaz and Svea confirms the leadership of the Swedish ship of this season... the fleet of J Class is delighted to have discovered the waters of Ibiza and Formentera as a great field of races

The J Class, Svea, with its co-shipowner Niklas Zenström to the cane, has been the winner of the great valued Kohler Cup, a cup reserved for the ships of this class and which was delivered after the Ibiza JoySail.

The Kohler Cup is a trophy that was created in memory of the entrepreneur and philanthropist Terry Kohler, who bought North Sails from Lowell North when North retired in 1984. Terry was a passionate North Sails and helped North maintain his position as a technological leader in the manufacture of candles.

Graduated by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, he saw the enormous potential to adopt the technology to the candles. Under his direction, North Sails introduced the manufacture of 3D candles. He owned it from 1984 to 2014, the year of his death.

Kolher's love for navigation spread to the nautical community in general. He was a great passion for this sport, particularly the female candle. He was particularly interested in the women's races, as he worked with the last U.S. women's Olympic team in London 2012.

Some of its major legacies have been the Sail Sheboygan Sailing Center and the Sailing Education Associate of Sheboygan (SEAS), non-profit organizations.

2023-09-28: Moat, Dark Horse and Aurelius lead their classes in the Ibiza JoySail

Slight wind from the south that allowed the superyachts to dispute a test, but not the Class J

With the entire fleet already concentrated in Marina Ibiza, the superyachts fought their first test in Iberian waters, where the Moat in Performance, the Dark Horse in Performance Cruising and Aurelius in World Cruising are placed leaders. The Class J, who did a test on Wednesday, this Thursday after several hours in the water finally couldn't hold any tests.

Thus the fleet had an exit launched every two minutes with the departure of the ships from slow to faster according to their rating. In this way, the first to cross the exit line was the Dystra 111 Aurelius and the last to do it the Swan 115 Jasi. The tour was 11.98 miles.

The Moat (Swan 115), the great favorite in all the quinquielas in Performance, and the only ship that has won the first two editions of the Ibiza JoySail soon took its head, the ship of Juan Ball and with Guillermo Parada to the cane came the first to pass by buoy, free from the rest of the fleet. The All Smoke (SW-RP 90) followed the star in real. Finally the Moat was the winner, followed by his twin Jasi and third in the classification was All Smoke himself. In Corinthian the Spanish boat Kiboko (SW 105) is first and fourth in the general. The Aragon left because of a break.

The Dark Horse (Swan80), another of the pioneers of the Ibiza JoySail, has pleasantly surprised this year for its competitiveness in the category Performance Cruising. The British ship was sailing in the front group until almost the end of the dyeing, where it was actually overtaken by the Kiboko, a 25-foot larger ship. Second the Prevail (Tripp 90) and third Shambo (Y7 70).

The Aurelius (Dystra 111) also showed good sensations from the same exit, and was leading the fleet for much of the first stretch, the Alarife 100 (Custom 99) is another of the Spanish ships in competition, is second and the Scorpion of London, third.

As for the Class J, which did compete on Wednesday day, they had their race field north of Formentera, but the wind barely reached 5 knots, so they could not dispute any evidence... for Friday day the two fleets will unify, and the organization's intention is to take a coastal tour where the Class J on one side and the Superyachts on the other.

The Topaz by Peter Holmberg and the Svea of the shipowner and patron Niklas Zenstrom, were the first to sail in the Ibiza JoySail and marked a race of authentic match race between two ships that go back to the American Cup.

With a very soft wind the Topaz was the first to cross the exit line thus taking forward the Svea... but little by little the Zenstrom ship managed to take over the race... imposing itself with a chrono of 01-07-57... on a Topaz with a regfist of 01-10-13... for a total of 4 miles.

The superyachts left on the morning of Wednesday from STP Shipyard Palma to Marina Ibiza, but without a record option due to the calm that is taking place in this part of the Mediterranean, where the wind barely reached 3 knots, so that the Regatas Committee chaired by Gaspar Morey decided that the fleet would make almost all the motor journey to Ibiza this afternoon.

By tomorrow, the entire Class J and SuperYates fleet will be fighting all the tests off the coast of Ibiza and Formentera.

2023-09-26: The Palma- Ibiza record to review tomorrow at the Ibiza JoySail

The exit will be from Cala Figuera in the bay of Palma and the arrival ha will be located in front of the island of Tagomago in Ibiza.

The Moat, of the Argentine shipowner Juan Ball and patronized by Guillermo Parada, is the owner of the first record of the crossing between Palma and Ibiza.
