The Hague drops the curtain with 8th White on ILCA 7

White Joaquin ends eighth at the Medal Race of ILCA 7 (Photo Sailing Energy)
After ten days of competition, the Olympic Classes World Championship comes down the curtain with the Races Medal dispute of classes ILCA 6 and 7. With Spanish representation in the final race of ILCA 7, Joaquín Blanco closes its ranking in the eighth place.
In front of 138 regatists in ILCA 7, the class with the greatest participation in the World Cup, the Top10 of Joaquín Blanco puts the gold brooch to the national results in this competition. The position obtained by our athletes points to the level of performance one year from the Games. Two medals (470 and 49er), two Top10 (49er FX and ILCA 7) and three classes in the first third of the fleet (Nacra 17, iQFOiL M, iQFOiL F and Formula Kite F) represent an excellent launch platform with Olympic medals as a target.
As only in the year before the Games, the international sailing federation has brought together the world scepter of all disciplines in one event, with much more sporting burden than the already important pods of each Olympic category. The starting point of the final sprint towards Paris 2024 has been the first qualifying race to determine which countries will be represented in the sailing tests of the Olympic Games.
In this sense, Spain approves with note and already has seven of the ten classes classified, being one of the great international sailing powers, overtaken in number of places obtained by only two countries. For the remaining three, the next world and European of each class and the Week of Hyères 2024 will distribute the remaining places.

2023-08-19: The Hague World Cup... Spain classifies seven classes for Paris 2024

The ILCA 7 closes the list of classes that have obtained country square for Spain in the next JJOO, totaling seven: 470, 49er, 49er FX, Nacra 17, iQFOiL M, iQFOiL F and ILCA 7... Joaquín Blanco will participate tomorrow Sunday at the Medal Race of ILCA 7 (Photo Sailing Energy)
At the close of the Olympic Class World Championship, Spain closes the championship in a brilliant way in terms of country squares obtained: 470, 49er, 49er FX, Nacra 17, iQFOiL M, iQFOiL F and ILCA 7. The silver and bronze medals of Xammar / Brugman and Botín / Trittel, respectively, round the excellent results of the national team, in the absence of the definitive classification of White Joaquin that will participate tomorrow in the Medal Race of ILCA 7.
After yesterday's stop due to lack of wind, ILCA 6 and 7 today conducted their last two tests to close the TOP10 that tomorrow will fight the Races Medal of both modalities. In ILCA 7, Joaquín Blanco kept the eighth place on the table ensuring entry into the final race, while Joel Rodríguez gave the breast do and closed his partials with a second in the last race to end at post 13.
It should be noted that in the computation of countries to obtain the country square, the positions of both Canarian regatists gave Spain the class passport for Paris 2024. The first Spanish in ILCA 6 was Catalan Cristina Pujol at 39 out of 109 participants.
As for the three classes not classified for Paris 2024 by Spain, the next opportunity in ILCA 6 will be the European of 2024, where two places will be put in play, while for the Kite Male and Female the occasion will be in the European Championship, with one place for each modality, to be held in less than a month. The last refishing will be on Hyères Week next year.
Tomorrow the Olympic Class World Championship will lower the curtain by uncovering the podium of classes ILCA 6 and 7.

2023-08-18: Follow the Red harvest in The Hague... Bottom-Trittel bronze in 49er

Double also for the 49ers in this world: country square and bronze medal... Spain gets two new country squares for Paris 2024: iQFOiL Male and Female, leaving for tomorrow the confirmation of the ILCA 7 (Photo Sailing Energy)
Botín and Trittel finish the World Cup with bronze medal in 49er after the only race, and Spain seals the country squares in iQFOiL Male and Female. Without wind and race, Echegoyen and Barceló were left with no options to improve their ninth in 49er FX and Gisela Polido without the possibility of a new escalation that would allow to classify the Women's Kite Formula for Paris 2024.
The worst possible scenario was today at The Hague World Cup. At the edge of 10: 30 h the deferral flags began to wave at the masts of the Olympic World Class Championship. The wind seemed not to want to form a match today with the sempiteral current of the coast of The Hague to define the conditions of the race field and let the hours pass without abandoning its inconsistency.
The 49er were the first to go out into the water and they endured a stooic postponement until the expected Medal Race could be released. Diego Botín and Florian Trittel got away with the silver but they didn't get off the world podium hanging the bronze medal.
Without getting into the water, from 4: 00 p.m. they began to announce the cancellation of the tests of the day: first for ILCA 6 and 7, they were followed by the 49th FX Race Medal, the iQFOiL Male and Female joined and ended with the abandonment for the Kite Male and Female Formula.
In iQFOiL, Spain confirms the country squares for both the category Male and Female. The Top10 for the iQFOiL Male and Women's Medal Race that will take place tomorrow Saturday 19 is defined on yesterday's classification, with no Spanish among them. Nacho Baltasar ends tenth in Male and Pilar Lamadrid tenth in female.
In Formula Kite Feminino, Gisela Pulido's excellent progression during the championship opened up all the possibilities for the Spanish to get the point that separated it from the country classification for the class today, without neglecting the possibility that it would reach the posts of Medal Race. The lack of evidence closed all the doors and left it at post 16 of the General.
The ILCA 6 and 7 are left with no rest day tomorrow Saturday to be able to complete their Final Series and define positions for Medal Race that will be held on Sunday.

2023-08-17: Silver for Xammar- Brugman in 470 Joint... in the Hague World Cup

Jordi Xammar and Nora Brugman round the World Cup and add silver medal in 470 Junta to the country square for the class... of the six remaining categories in contest, Spain maintains ranking posts for Paris 2024 in three: ILCA 7 and iQFOiL Male and Female
First day of Medal Races in the World Olympic Classes Championship with silver medal for Jordi Xammar and Nora Brugman in 470 Junta. With this, the Catalan crew round their performance in The Hague in the best possible way.
Xammar and Brugman parted as classified seconds, with gold already awarded to the Japanese Okada and Yashioka. Its closest competitors, at three points, were the Germans Winkel / Winkel and the Austrian Vadlau / Maer.
But he could not lose sight of the German Diesch / Markfort, six points, or the other Dupla Nipona of Isozaki / Seki. After a good departure, Xammar and Brugman remained in the head group leaving their enemies aft. The Spaniards crossed the line of arrival in fourth position with their names already inscribed in the silver medal.
Jordi Xammar: "We knew that today was a key day, perhaps the most important day of this year and we had many teams stuck, but we knew that we could do it, that we usually give in such situations. We are very happy to have done it, a very good Medal Race and second medal in the second world of this campaign with Nora."
In the group Oro de ILCA 7, with temporary place of country for Spain, are found sailing the canaries Joaquín Blanco and Joel Rodríguez. White today signs an excellent day that leads to the eighth square of the classification, while Rodríguez in 15th. In ILCA 6 it is Cristina Pujol who got the pass to the Oro group, ending the day in 34th.
The iQFOiL Male and Female are also located in country square posts. Today it has not been the day for the Mallorcan regatist Nacho Baltasar who, despite his sixth place in the fourth of the day, goes down to the tenth position. Pilar Lamadrid began the day with strength by adding a 5-5-3, but lost power with the wind's fall. The Andalusian is the tenth to two points of the Top10 of the Medal Series that will be set tomorrow.
In Formula Kite, Gisela Polido continues to ascend in the classification and is 16, only one point to classify the class for Paris 2024 and 15 of Top10 that will be decided tomorrow to contest the Medal Series. In the male category, the first ranked is Bernat Cortés at 31, in the Silver group.
Tomorrow with Medal Race for classes 49er and 49er FX and medal possibilities for Button and Trittel, the Medals fleets will be defined in iQFOiL and Formula Kite M and F, and in ILCA 6 and 7. The comets and tables will have Medal Series on Saturday while the ILCA 6 and 7 Races Medal will close the World Cup on Sunday.

2023-08-16: Spain seals the passport for Paris 2024 of 49er, 49er FX, 470 Junta and Nacra 17

Among the seven country squares that Spain is defending for Paris 2024 in this World Cup, four have been confirmed today: 49er, 49er FX, 470 Comunio and Nacra 17... Button / Trittel (49er), Xammar / Brugman (470 Comunio) and Echegoyen / Barceló (49er FX) will be in the Races Medal, with clear medal options in 49er and 470 Comunio
Big day for Spain in the World Olympic Classes Championship with four confirmed country squares for Paris 2024. Full in the possibilities of the day with passport sealed for 49er, 49er FX, 470 and Nacra 17. In addition, 49er, 49er FX and 470 Junta will have Spanish in the Races Medal.
The late entrance of the wind today caused the crews to suffer on the ground, with postponements of more than three hours until it was possible to give the first start, with the current again as a determining condition.
49er has been the first class to complete today's tests and the first to confirm the Spanish country square for the Paris 2024 Games. Diego Botín and Florian Trittel have started the day with a fourth place that kept them seconds in the general with the possibility to step on the first step of the podium, but an off-line in the second manga was held up with those hopes.
The Catalan-Cantabrian double has continued to fight to defend his post and closes the General's second day. The score of the Germans, to more than twenty points of the Spaniards, already confirms them as winners of the world gold, with the silver available to the Spaniards.
With the second class finishing the tests of the day, 49er FX, arrived the second country square for Spain at the Olympic Games and the entrance of Támara Echegoyen and Paula Barceló at the Medal Race. The Galician-Balear crew has signed a 13-6-23 which places them in the tenth place of the general. Here too, the Swedish Vilma Bobeck and Rebecca Netzler already have world gold in their hand.
The Nacra 17 was the third class to add a country square to Spain, with Tara Pacheco and Andrés Barrio finally ranked in 11. The Canarian crew will not be in the Medal Race but has won the main of this championship: the country's ranking for Paris 2024.
The 470 Junta closed the full of classes with the possibility of country square by classifying the Catalan crew of Jordi Xammar and Nora Brugman in second place for the Medal Race after a spectacular dating from the seventh place. The Catalan Silvia Mas and the Galician Nico Rodríguez, who yesterday were fourth, fell to the tenth position, only two points from the Top10.
With the Japanese Okada and Yoshioka mathematically proclaimed world champions, for Xammar and Brugman the possibilities of silver medal are open.
The metal options for Spain in 470 Joint will be decided tomorrow at the Class Medal Race. 49er and 49er FX, with rest tomorrow, must wait until Friday to decide their respective podiums. The rest of the classes, with several options still for country classification for Spain and final between Saturday and Sunday, had not yet closed their day classifications by closing these lines.
Although not included in the Paris 2024 program, the candle continues to fight internationally to regain its position. It was an exhibition sport in Atlanta 1996 and Olympic mode from Sydney 2000 to Rio 2016. With participation in this World Championship, the Spanish representation has been run by Pau Homar and Ramón Gutiérrez in RS Venture, Violet of the Kingdom in Hansa 303 Women and Sergio Roig in Hansa 303 Male. For them today was the last day of the championship and the baleares close their participation with a fourth place for Homar and Gutiérrez, fifth for Violeta del Reino, and an eighth for Sergio Roig.

2023-08-16: Last hour in The Hague: Spain confirms country squares of 49er, 49fxer and Nacra17

The scene entry of the female iQFOiL adds one more temporary place for Spain in view of the JJOO of Paris 2024: 49er, 49er FX, Nacra 17, 470 Junta, ILCA 7, iQFOiL Male and iQFOiL Female... 2023-08-15: Spain sums up the seventh provisional country square for the Paris Games
The World Olympic Class Championship is moving forward with a new day in which Spain adds a new temporary country square by adding the Women's iQFOiL to the 49er, 49er FX, Nacra 17, 470 Junta, ILCA 7 and iQFOiL Male.
Among the classes that begin today their final sprint (49er, 49er FX and Nacra 17), the 49er close the day with Diego Botín and Florian Trittel in first position. The Spanish will have to defend their position against the Dutch Lambriex and go from Werken who follow them to less than one point. It is clear that the world scepter will be sold expensive and that the emotion will be maximum until the last board: tomorrow Wednesday they will decide their Top10 for the Medal Race, they will rest on Thursday and they will be beaten in the final duel on Friday.
With the two Spanish crews sailing in the Oro group, three tests have opened the sum of points of the Final Series in 49erFX. Under clearly unfavourable consitions, Támara Echegoyen and Paula Barceló defend their Top10 with the 9th place while Alicia Fras and Elena Barrio are 25th. The same programme as in the case of the 49ers.
The Spanish crew of Silvia Mas and Nico Rodríguez stalks the podium of 470 Junta and is now placed in fourth position of the general at only one point of the third classified. Also in Top10, Jordi Xammar and Nora Brugman posts go up to seventh, while the third national team in the class's Gold group, Neus Ballester and Jaime Wizner are 24.
In iQFOiL, Nacho Baltasar opened the day with victory, which led him to occupy the third step of the provisional podium. The results of the remaining three tests put him back in the fourth place of the general, five points from the podium. The women's fleet has finally opened its markers, with Pilar Lamadrid as the first Spanish of the table in the eighth place of Top10 and temporary country square for Spain for Paris 2024. Lamadrid, with many races still to remount positions, is seven points from the desired podium.
The cross face of the wind has touched the ILCA 6 that do not add any partial to their markers while maintaining the same classification of yesterday, with Cristina Pujol as best Spanish at 40. For ILCA 7, two have been the sleeves disputed instead of the three programmed. Joel Rodríguez has not had a good day and goes down to position 19, with Joaquín Blanco staying at its twenty-first position at only four points.
In Formula Kite, after a complicated first day premiere, Gisela Pulido has now come out in the water with renewed forces. The Spanish, fourth of the World Ranking, rises to its markers an 8-11-6-8-6-5 that make it ascend to the 21st place of the female table, five points from the classification of Spain as a country for the Olympic Games. Bernat Cortés is in charge of the Spanish representation in the male category in the 35th position.
Tomorrow will be a final day for the 49er, 49er FX, Nacra 17 and 470 Joint before the Medal Race. The 470 Junta and the 17 Nacra will celebrate it on Thursday 17, while the 49er and 49er FX will rest on Thursday to finish the championship on Friday.

2023-08-14: Spain maintains country squares for Paris 2024 in six classes in The Hague

The low wind and current complicate a day in which the national team maintains a country square in 49er, 49er FX, 470 Junta, Nacra 17, ILCA 7 and iQFOiL Male... with two first positions, the best performance of the day is that of Nacho Baltasar, fourth in iQFOil, two points from the podium... the lack of wind prevents the premiere of the female iQFOiL and leaves without regatta to ILCA 7
With nine of the ten Olympic classes already sailing in the World Championship, Spanish teams close the fourth day of race with six temporary country squares for the Olympic Games: 49er, 49er FX, iQFOiL M, 470 Junta and Nacra 17. The best national results have been today for Nacho Baltasar who is fourth in the iQFOiL M general, two points away from the podium. In 49er, after a protest review, Diego Botín and Florian Trittel are the class's new leaders.
The weather forecast has been achieved on the Dutch coast of The Hague and the wind has lost strength over previous days. In the morning, it was barely over 10 knots, losing intensity as the afternoon entered. Under these conditions, in which the strong current was also maintained, not only have there been numerous postponements, but some of the participating classes have not been able to meet the planned programme. The worst part has been taken by the ILCA 7 and the Women's iQFOiL that have not been able to perform any manga.
With a rest day for the 49th and 49th FX, in the Jury room the protest of the Spanish crew of Diego Botín and Florian Trittel was put on the table again after the boarding of a German ship that caused the Spanish to fly. Revised the repair granted in principle to the Spaniards, disadjusted with regard to the progression of the Catalan-Cantabrian double, the new decision does justice and places the Spaniards at the forefront of the 49er classification.
The first category to finish the day's races, making the most of the morning wind, was the iQFOiL Male. Nacho Baltasar took off with strength and with a 1- (27) -1-9 occupies the fourth position of the first general of the class, only two points from the podium.
The 470 Junta today faced their last day of qualification, after which three Spanish crews, Mas / Rodríguez, Xammar / Brugman and Ballester / Wizner, pass to the Oro de las Series Finales. With a single contested race, a fourth place goes to Silvia Mas and Nico Rodríguez to the fourth position, while Jordi Xammar and Nora Brugman are forced to rule out today's 18, leaving the 13 of the second manga of the series undiscovered, making them octavos.
Three new tests for the Nacra 17 on a hard day in which the crews have had to be fully employed. The scores of the day leave the Canaries Tara Pacheco and Andrés Barrio outside the Top10 but keeping the country square for Spain.
Unlike ILCA 7, ILCA 6 were able to navigate by adding two new tests to their markers. The Canaria Martina Reino shone today in its fleet closing the day with a first... the best-classified Spanish remains Cristina Pujol at the 40.
The first classification in Formula Kite Feminino with only two tests completed by the two fleets in which the participants are divided. Gisela Polido could not finish the first race by running out of wind and, after signing a first one in the second, saw the rest of the day's races were cancelled. The Spanish is in the 40th place on an anomalous table in which the scores, from the 28 position, only add up to two sleeves. S
I have been able to complete the program the Formula Kite Male, where the first Spanish is Bernat Cortés in 32 position... tomorrow Tuesday they will sail all the classes except the Nacra 17 that have a day of rest.

2023-08-13: Spanish ILCA7 premiere by adding provisional country square for Paris

Of the six classes that are already competing in the World Cup, five are located in temporary country square positions for Paris 2024... the 49th is today the protagonist with a 1-1-2 of Botín and Trittel that places them 2 points from the gold... 49th, 49th FX and Nacra 17 will begin their Final Series with Spanish teams in all the groups Gold (Photo Sailing Energy)
The instability of the wind and the strong current mark the pattern of the third day of the World Olympic Classes of The Hague, in which Spain closes its markers with five classes in temporary country square posts for Paris 2024: 49er, 49er FX, Nacra 17, ILCA 7 and 470.
At the World Cup are Diego Botín and Florian Trittel, seconds in 49er after an exceptional round of races in which they have added a 1-1-2. In addition, the Spanish dupla was repaired by the Jury in the last two races yesterday after the German ship's override, which changes its score to only two points of gold.
With a large fleet of 138 participants in ILCA 7 and 109 in ILCA 6, these two classes add to those already competing in the World Cup, and do so with good results from the Spaniards in ILCA 7, where in addition to placing Spain in square posts per country, Joel Rodríguez closes the first Top5 of the classification. In ILCA 6, the first national flag was found at 31 with Cristina Pujol.
Good day also for Tara Pacheco and Andrés Barrio in Nacra 17. The canaries rise from 10 to 7 after adding an excellent 4-3-2. This category enters tomorrow in its Final Series with the Spanish crew in the group Oro.
In 49er FX, conditions have put difficult things to Támara Echegoyen and Paula Barceló, who with an 11-7-4 move to eighth place.
Barceló stated that "the rise and fall of the wind made the strong current at many times decisive, to which has been joined the entrance of numerous clouds that have produced abundant roles in the field of races. It's been pretty complicated, but we've fought and we're gonna keep fighting."
Along with the crew of Alicia Fras and Elena Barrio (24th), the two national teams of 49er FX will sail in the group Oro de las Series Finales.
In the morning there will be rest for the 49er and 49er FX, the 470 Joint will resume their Classicatoriai Series, and the QFOiL and the Formula Kite, both male and female, will join the competition.

2023-08-12: 49er FX and 470 join the temporary country places for Paris 2024

Provisional plenary for Spain in Olympic country squares for classes that have started to compete in the World Cup... bright day in 49er FX and 470... Echegoyen / Barceló and Xammar / Brugman rise to fifth position in their respective classes (Photo Sailing Energy)
The World Olympic Classes Championship closes its second day of Spanish-full races on the provisional country-by-country table for Paris 2024. The 470 Junta and the 49er FX joined the 49er and the 17 Nacra who had already entered country posts yesterday and held positions. In the World Championship, Bothin and Trittel are rooms to protest 49er, Xammar and Brugman are fifths in a triple tie with the third in 470 Junta, and Echegoyen / Barceló close the Top5 in 49er FX.
Along with the strong currents that mark the tactic in the race field, the wind has now gone from less to more, starting with 11 knots and ending with an average of more than 19 knots and more than 20.
The day has been very useful for the crews of the ESP Sailing Team in 470 Joint, with the teams of Xammar / Brugman and Mas / Rodríguez ascending to positions five and six of the general and putting Spain in country square posts for Paris 2024. With a single point of difference between the two Spaniards, Jordi Xammar and Nora Brugman are part of the triple tie between the third, fourth and fifth of the general. The podium possibilities are opened for these national teams, with three days still of competition before the Medal Race on Thursday 17. The one of 470 Junta will be the first fleet to have a day off tomorrow Sunday, resuming the tests on Monday. The Japanese Okada / Yoshioka stand at the front of the table.
Spectacular round of races also starring Támara Echegoyen and Paula Barceló in 49er FX. The Galician-Ballar team today signs a 3-2-4 that brings them to the fifth position of the World Cup and places Spain in country square positions for the next Olympic Games. The Swedish Bobeck and Netzler today attack the lead in a classification that still promises movements.
The worst part of today's harsh conditions is taken by the fleet of 49er, with several reels and collisions. One of these approaches has ended with the return of the ship of Diego Botín and Florian Trittel in the second test of the day, which forced the Spaniards to withdraw. When they arrived on the ground, the Spaniards presented the corresponding protest, which when closing these lines was still to be resolved. In the fourth temporary position and two points from the podium, the Spaniards wait to leave the courtroom again at podium posts.
In Nacra 17, Tara Pacheco and Andrés Barrio today close the Top10 of the class after signing a (6) -5-6. The Italians Tita / Banti remain at the forefront of the classification on a podium that still has many aspirants.
In the Paralympic disciplines that also participate in this World Cup, the Spaniards are also found in the Top10 of their respective classes, with Violet of the sixth Kingdom in Hansa 303 female and Sergio Roig ninth in male... tomorrow will be rest day for the 470 Junta and the ILCA 6 and 7 will premiere in the field of regatas.

2023-08-11: The Hague World Cup... Spain premiere with two country squares in portfolio

49er, 49er FX, 470 Junta and Nacra 17 raise the curtain of the World Olympic Class Championship... Diego Botín and Florian Trittel are located on the second step of the provisional podium of 49er tied with the first... 49er and Nacra 17 enter the first provisional table of distribution of Olympic squares of the country
The Olympic World Class Championship has today premiered its test markers for the 49er, 49er FX, 470 Junta and 17 Nacra classes. At the close of the day, Diego Botín and Florian Trittel have the best position among the Spaniards, with a second place in 49er. As for the first tantage of Olympic squares, Spain is among the provisional of 49er and Nacra 17.
In the race field, the wind conditions have been between 10 and 14 knots. As for the current, an important aspect in The Hague waters, today has been quite influential, especially in the afternoon, with a speed of more than two knots.
The star class for the Spaniards at this start of the championship has been the 49th, where Diego Botín and Florian Trittel have added two first and one fifth disposable in the last manga leading them to the second step of the provisional podium. The Americans Nevin Snow and Maximiliano Agnese, who, with a (18) -1-1, are placed first thanks to the victory in the last test, are located ahead. With ten country squares for Paris 2024 to be distributed in this world, Spain is placed in the second place of that desired Top10.
The second best national position is held by Tara Pacheco and Andrés Barrio in Nacra 17 who, in a very tight classification, are novies to three points of the podium. They lead the Italians Ruggero Tita and Caterina Banti. In this case there will be nine country places to be granted in this world, one of which is provisionally in possession of the Spanish team.
In 470 Junta, Silvia Mas and Nico Rodríguez began marking territory with a first. With a sixth of Neus Ballester and Jaime Wizner and a seventh of Jordi Xammar and Nora Brugman in that first race, the Spanish team made clear their intentions, undrawn for the moment by a bad round in the second. Without yet applying the discard, Xammar and Brugman are thirteenth, Mas and Rodríguez 20 and Ballester 25, with six points of difference between the three crews. The Japanese Keiju Okada and Miho Yoshioka are the first leaders.
Also with a very closed score still, Támara Echegoyen and Paula Barceló are 17th in 49er FX, two positions ahead of Alicia Fras and Elena Barrio, 19th, with two points between them and ten to the podium, headed by the Belgians Maenhaut / Geurts.
Tomorrow Saturday they will sail the same classes as today, incorporating the ILCA 6 and 7 on Sunday and must wait until Monday to see the iQFOiL and Formula Kite compete.

2023-08-09: For the Spanish candle... Paris 2024 starts in The Hague

The World Championship puts in play 107 country squares to participate in the JJOO of Paris 2024... 28 crews make up the national squadron that reaches the Hague ready to classify the ten classes represented
The Olympic candle starts this Friday on its way to Paris 2024 with the Hague World Championship, in which the first pais squares are distributed for the next Games. 38 Spanish regatists will sail as a solid team to close the world with the Olympic passport for as many classes as possible.
In the year before the Games, the World Sailing, an international sailing federation, reunites in the same event the annual meeting by anthonomasia of all the Olympic classes, bringing together in The Hague 1,094 regatists who will fight for the 107 places to be given on this occasion: eleven for the male iQFoil and eleven for the female, eight for the male Kite Formula and eight for the female, sixteen for ILCA 7 and sixteen for ILCA 6, ten for 49er and ten for 49er FX, eight for the 470, and nine for Nacra 17.
As Francisco Gil, director of Olympic preparation, says, "the main objective is to classify the country for the Olympic Games. Obviously we all like to win and all the medals that come will be celebrated, but the goal is really to classify the country."
To do this, among the Spanish we find established athletes along with great revelations, navigators with long experience in their categories and bright lance points of the new classes. A team that has evolved throughout the Olympic cycle and, as Gil continues, reached the recent Marseille Test Event in that ascending line: "In the Test Event very few countries would have classified all classes, but Spain at that time would have classified seven classes. We are one of the sailing powers, it is undeniable and we have to be there and fight to keep it that way. Powerful countries, as a team, with ten classes, there are not so many in the world."
The double classes
In 470 we had four crews: Jordi Xammar and Nora Brugman, Silvia Mas and Nico Rodríguez, Neus Ballester and Jaime Wizner, and Pablo Ruiz and Mar Gil. In addition to the Olympic target, Xammar and Brugman arrive as current world subchampions. The 49th team is made up of the duets of Diego Botín and Florian Trittel, Albert Torres and Elías Aretz, and Pol Marsans and José Manuel Ruiz, among whom Botín and Trittel will try to improve the world silver obtained last year. Támara Echegoyen and Paula Barceló together with Alicia Fras and Elena Barrio will defend our colors in 49er FX, in addition to the world bronze by Echegoyen and Barceló. In Nacra 17, Tara Pacheco and Andrés Barrio will live in The Hague their first world as a crew.
Individual classes
With two Top5 of the world ranking: Pilar Lamadrid, second in the female iQFOiL, and Gisela Polido, fourth in the female Formula Kite. Next to Lamadrid they close ranks on the Olympic tables Nicole van der Velden and Andrea Torres, while on the male team will be Nacho Baltasar, Jorge Aranzueque and Bernat Tomás. Alex Climent, Bernat Cortés and Jacobo Espi make up the male team of Formula Kite. In ILCA 7 they will sail Joel Rodríguez, Leo Barreto, Joaquín Blanco and Pep Cazador, while Cristina Pujol, Ana Moncada, Lara Himmes and Martina Reino will sail in ILCA 6.
After the opening ceremony on Thursday, August 10, the tests at sea will begin on Friday and end on Sunday... as a stage they will have one of the most difficult race fields in the world, in which no country has been able to train until this week.
