Sports and academic environment with a lot of youth in the Walls in the Sea... organized by the Sailway Foundation

Walls in the sea... is to explore and take advantage of the sea as a formative space. The activity is carried out by the Sailway Foundation in coordination with the faculty of the school chosen to carry out the outreach action.

The activity was carried out on Wednesday with the students of the first course of the ESO (who are aged 12-13 years) of the College of Development Las Acacias de Vigo.

25 young students have embarked in units of the Sailway fleet, being distributed in five sailing yachts. The route consisted of sailing through our incomparable viguese ría, starting from the Puerto Deportivo del Real Club Náutico de Vigo... heading for a shellfish batea, anchored in the Moaña inlet.

There in the beautiful moracense marinera village, the girls attended a lecture cut-off, mathematics and marine biology... when they concluded back to Vigo, and repeated navigation, in the reverse sense.

On board we have one of the scientists reference in the world of marine research: Luis Sampedro Pérez; biologist, with great preparation and knowledge within the world of marine ecology... who is a professional of the Marine Research Institute, dependent on the Higher Council of Scientific Research (CSIC), founded in 1939.

The marine biologist, will perform a master class on respect for the sea... as well as the growing of mussels, algae and flora of our ria. All this accompanied by practical observation exercises by the extraction of samples for analysis on board the ships, real classrooms on this occasion.

The math teacher, Lorena Solla, will carry out a math exercise with the compas of marks once you are targeted, in the vicinity of the bateas, in Moaña. The aim is to take two delays so that they can then develop the exercise in class to find in the marine charter of the river of Vigo, were the ships boned.

The initiative of the Sailway Foundation seeks to involve groups of schoolchildren, through their school centres, in the love of the sea... both at sports levels, as well as those of environmental respect, and in the knowledge of what the sea represents in all its beauty and diversity.
