Sailing Week of Santander: Cantabria, child and youth winner

It ends the first official meeting within the International Week of Selling the City of Santander, Optimist and 420, calling on the exit line more than half a hundred young athletes who have represented Baleares, Canarias, Cantabria and Madrid.

In the class Optimist Neco del Castillo (Real Club Marítimo de Santander) is raised with the title of winner, thanks to a results card that shows the victory in four of the five contested races. The silver goes to Baleares by the hand of Xuaco García (Cala Gamba Nautico Club) who managed to score the only gold that did not recede in the hands of the cantabre. Bronze is for Teresa Gómez (RCMS).

Class 420 has seen two women that none of their rivals have been able to shadow. The duo Candela Escobedo-Ana Rivero (Real Club Marítimo de Santander) has been imposed with three first positions in five contested races, in front of his teammates Ignacio Albo-Juan Salas (silver), and Pietro Periotto-Guillermo Hidalgo, who with today's races were climbing to bronze.

The podium of the category Optimist promotion, initiation to the competition, falls into the hands of the RCMS athletes Rita García, Pepe Fernández and Sol Arias. The award ceremony was held at the Duna Zaera and was chaired by Fernando Pereda (President of the Maritime), Gema Econo (Mayor of Santander), Luis Prieto (of the Cantabra Federation of Vela) and the Olympic medalist, the Orensana Tamara Echegoyen (Photos of María Muíña)


Next weekend will be the second of the official tests of the International Sailing Week of Santander City with the tests for the deep-rooted Snipe class: the sexagésima third of the regatta in memory of Rafael Sanz and the twentieth edition in the memory of Juan de Dios Valenzuela.

The International Sailing Week of Santander City began in canteen waters... where the Candela Escobed- Ana Rivero tandem in 420 and Neco del Castillo in Optimist are the first leaders.

Three races in the southern part of the bay with half a hundred optimist... being the non-commissioned leader of the Santander Maritime Castle with two first and a second place, while the Xuacu Garcia of Cala Gamba, is silver three points from the canteen... third has been Teresa Gómez. The regatists of Candela Escobedo and Ana Rivero have been the domineers... the cantabres selected for this year's 420 European Championship have not hesitated to rise with the provisional gold, achieved by making two first and a second place. After them Ignacio Albo-Juan Salas and Javier Torcida- Juan Marcos; both of them were the same. By Sunday the second act.

2023-06-02: International Sailing Week of Santander

The Maritime of Santander establishes a new category of sports promotion, within the Optimist class, to which the young people of the School of Regades of the Maritime newly incorporated into the world of sport (Photo Maria Muíña) will attend.

A training race in the bay of Santanderina, with the best conditions of navigation, for the Optimist class and 420 has given the start of the eighth edition of the International Sailing Week of the City of Santander, which will officially start tomorrow with the first punctuable tests of the National Sailing of Children and Youth Sailing: of the Optimist classes and 420, with units from Baleares, Canarias, Cantabria, Euakadi and Madrid.

The class 420, one of the great bets of the Maritime with respect to its quarry, promises very tight races in both the sub-17 and sub-19 category by looking at the list of registered and the level of many of them

Among the participants are some of the athletes of the RCMS School of Regats such as Javier Torcida and Juan Marcos (classified for the World and European Championship 2023), Ignacio Albo and Juan Salas, Pietro Periotto with Guillermo Hidalgo and the women Candela Escobedo with Ana Rivero (all classified to contest the 420 European Championship).

To highlight a golden opportunity for local athletes, as the Olympic Onan Barreiros (JJ.OO. London 2012 and Beijing 2008) will be the test, in order to tecnify the RCMS race team that takes part in the International Sailing Week of Santander City and those classified for continental and global dating.

The most important event of the Real Club Marítimo de Santander's race calendar, which has more than 200 tests scheduled throughout the year, comes with the International Sailing Week City of Santander.

On this occasion the International Week has been designed with four different tests throughout June and the previous one was held last April (J80 Cantabria Championship).

In this month of June and for three consecutive weekends it will be quoted to the light candle (Critérium Nacional de Sela Infantil y Juvenil, in memory of Rafael Sanz and Juan de Dios Valenzuela) and to the cruise (SAR Don Felipe de Borbón), with more than 300 athletes on the line of departure along the sports event.

The first to open the lockers will be the young athletes of the Optimist classes and 420 from 2 to 4 June. In addition to the athletes of the RCMS School of Regats, other autonomous communities are expected to be involved and will travel to Santander in the middle of the week.

After the younger ones will come the time of one of the most rooted light sailing classes in Cantabria, the Snipe class, with the dispute of up to 6 races scheduled on the weekend of June 10 and 11.

The International Sailing Week of Santander City will have as its final colofon the twenty-fourth edition of the SAR Regata Don Felipe de Borbón, which brings together the cruise ships that throughout the year compete with a high level in Cantabria.

The extensive sports test will be an important event for the RCMS's star project, the School of Regatas, which is driving a new quarry of young sailors in a region that, in addition to living face the sea, has become international reference throughout the years in the world of sailing sport.

The International Sailing Week of the City of Santander is held under the organization of the Royal Maritime Club of Santander, with the fundamental support of institutions such as the Municipality of Santander, the Jubilee Year Lebanon 2023-2024, the Society, Cantabria Sport, the Government of Cantabria, the Municipal Institute of Sports and the Port of Santander, in addition to the CSD, RFEV, RFCV and CEAR of Vela Príncipe Felipe
