They sailed 40 ships with little wind in this competition with solera of the Royal Abra Maritime Club - Real Sporting Club, which also scores this year for the Euskadi J80 Championship

Final of the Eskarra Trophy, one of the classics of the Royal Marytimo Club of the Abra-Real Sporting Club, which has been in place for 58 editions since it was created in 1964, and which has now been organized for 18 seasons by Surne's hand.

The Corel 45 Maitena of Mikel Emaldi, was the winner... and in the rest of the classes they defeated the Bacilón of José Miguel Franco in Cruciero I, the Kohen of Juan Carlos Estefanía in Cruciero II and the Solintal of Ignacio Camino and Armando Gutiérrez in the J80 class.

From the early hours of Saturday there was a great atmosphere in the ironing and pants of the club of Las Arenas, with the crews preparing for one of the most relevant and important dates of the calendar for ships of the class cruise and monotypes of the class J80, the latter boats that also scored for the Euskadi Championship that ends this Sunday.

In J80 the Cantabrian Solintal pointed out the two completed routes, the first of 3.4 miles ahead of the Biobizz vizcino of José Azqueta and the Decoexsa gipuzcoano of Olatz Muñoz, which kept a nice fight; and the second shorter of 2.4 miles with the Fredo La Estrella del Norte of José María Torcida in the second square and the Biobizz in the third. It is precisely the crew of José Azqueta the second in the general, three points from the Solintal, with the Fredo La Estrella del Norte third four points from the leader. The second and final day is very exciting.

Among the races, after the Maitena were the Abelarre de Mauricio Guibert and the Rat Pack de Javier CHA varri. The Alpega of Alfonso Churruca, the Symphony of Javier Onaindia, the Despeinado of Carlos Maidagan, the Tchin Tchin of José Luis Ribed and the Thelonious of Jon Garai were then classified. Already in Cruciero I was awarded the triumph the Bacilón of José Miguel Franco, with the Kribi of Juanma Pereiro second and with the Nexus of Javier Trueba in the third square. In Cruise II he won the Kohen, a First 35S5, by Juan Carlos Estefanía. Second was the Ramper of Jairo López de Guevar

He returns this Saturday to the Vizcaina waters of the Abra one of the traditional sailing tests in the Cantabric: the XVIII Surne- 58th Eskarra Trophy. From this month of June until the end of September there are several important races of the calendar of the Royal Maritime Club of the Abra-Real Sporting Club, which celebrates its 125th anniversary.

It was there in 1964 that the first edition of this historic Eskarra Trophy, a championship with solera and history of the Basque candle, took place. It has already reached 59 years of that remembered beginning (58 editions after being suspended in 2020 by the pandemic), with about 30 vessels of the classes in liza - with the departure scheduled by the committee of races at 13 hours.

The regatists aspire to enlist the name of their ship in the trophy that will raise the absolute winner of a test that emerged in the 1960s of the last century by a beautiful initiative of which he was president of the Real Club Marítimo del Abra - Real Sporting Club, Don Ramón Zubiria, in tribute to José Luis Azqueta and his sailing boat Eskarra. Tens of units of the Cantabric fleet will be present in this Surne, consolidated as one of the most expected competitions and that changed its name 19 years ago for sponsorship reasons.
