The Ocean Race: Biotherm ends stage 5 with a shortened tour

Although the stage is already over for the Biotherm, what does not change is the distance to reach Aarhus, which is still 480 miles. The team is slowly advancing, protecting the mast's stability despite going with the broken gardening and is not expected to join the IMOCA fleet at Ocean Live Park before the weekend
According to the Regata Instructions, which allow the Regates Committee to shorten the course of the ships still in competition, the finish line for the Biotherm has moved to 0 degrees of length.
Therefore, the Biotherm has finished stage 5 at 10: 37: 50 UTC on Wednesday 31 May in fourth place, adding 4 points at this stage. The time that has taken has been 9 days, 16 hours, 22 minutes and 50 seconds.

The Ocean Race Summit will take place this Thursday and the rest of the scale promises to be an exciting and attractive experience for visitors as Sunday's In Port race approaches, before the departure of stage 6 next week. The weather part says the sun will look every day.
2023-05-30: For 11th Hour Racing Team Stage 5, which is already the leader of The Ocean Race

Team Holcim-PRB maintains second place and Team Malizia is third
Charlie Enright was looking at a smile as bright as the morning sun in Aarhus, while this Monday he was patrolling his 11th Hour Racing Team... first place in the stage 5 of The Ocean Race.
The victory was doubly important; this transatlantic crossing is a double-score stage, and with its victory the 11th Hour Racing Team has for the first time risen to the highest of the general classification.
Almost 4 hours after the 11th Hour Racing Team won the stage, Team Holcim-PRB won a second position that it had a hard time defending, keeping Team Malizia in line, which ended only five minutes later.
The third position leaves Team Malizia behind what they would like in the general classification, but co-patron Will Harris was challenging and confident when asked if they could still win the race.
The Biotherm remains on the road, approaching north of Scotland, and still has more than 750 nautical miles ahead of it until it reaches the target. The team sails slowly, protecting the mast, and will not be in Aarhus until the end of the week.
2023-05-28: The Ocean Race: maximum tension in the approach to Aarhus

The 11th Hour Racing Team seeks its second consecutive stage victory and lead in the General of The Ocean Race
From the first stage from Alicante to Cape Verde, the patron Kevin Escoffier and the crew members who have rotated on Team Holcim-PRB have been firmly positioned at the top of the overall race classification.
Now, when there are just over 250 miles left for the finish line in Aarhus, Charlie Enright's 11th Hour Racing is the one who keeps the pressure, sailing at fast speeds towards the finish line of the stage.
A victory at this stage that scores double would be the second consecutive stage win for the American flag team and would bring the favorite before the race to the top of the general ranking.
At 11: 00 UTC on Sunday, the leader had 260 miles to the finish line and a 25-mile advantage over the second. The fast wind conditions they have will require several maneuvers and there are various traffic separation areas (exclusion zones) that must be drawn.
And if that wasn't enough, Team Malizia, who just beat the speed record in 24 hours, is stalking in third place, less than 50 miles.
The expected arrival in the Danish port city, for the winning ship is around 04: 30 local time in Aarhus, 02: 30 GMT, in the early hours of Monday morning.
2023-05-27: The Ocean Race... North Atlantic... the ocean of the thousand records

The head trio is marking a fast pace in the last 48 hours of stage 5
In the fifth stage of the Ocean Race race, records are battered one after another... first was the 11th Hour Racing Team, which set a new record, but shortly after it was overshadowed by Team Holcim-PRB, qseemed to have won not only a new race record, but also the absolute 24-hour distance record in a monocasco.
The leading trio's tail ship was the last to meet the favourable conditions for breaking records: built at 25 knots and relatively flat waters. Ideal for the latest generation IMOCA that form the fleet in The Ocean Race.
But if the regatists aboard Team Malizia started later, their end was brilliant. On Friday night, around 22: 20 UTC, the team exceeded the brand set by Team Holcim-PRB, and set the new standard by little: 641.13 nautical miles over 24 hours.
The data must be ratified by the World Sailing Speed Record Council to be official, but far exceed the previous 618.01-mile mark established by the 100-foot Comanche maxi in 2015.
The fast pace has also returned the crew to the race for first reaching Aarhus, Denmark, now behind the 11th Hour Racing Team leader for only 25 miles. Team Holcim-PRB is in the middle of both, just 10 miles from the leader.
The head platoon is now (at 1100 UTC on Saturday) going up the west coast of Scotland and about to turn east, surrounding the upper United Kingdom and towards Denmark.
With the rapid pace of the last 48 hours, the expected time of arrival at Aarhus has been advanced until midnight Sunday.
Biotherm... every madman with his theme
The fourth ship of the fleet, the Biotherm, continues its particular race. His patron, Paul Meilhat, and his crew are in good spirits, but with a whole day of delay over the leaders.
2023-05-26: The Ocean Race: Team Holcim-PRB with 640.9 billion-day... world record

The general ranking leader has set a new monocasque record
The patron Kevin Escoffier and his Team Holcim-PRB have hit the 24-hour distance record in the monocasque class.
The first to fall was the 24-hour Speed Record Challenge of The Ocean Race, previously established at 602 nautical miles by Simeon Testipont's Team AkzoNobel in the last edition.
A few hours later, the absolute record of monocascos, 618 nautical miles, set by the 100-foot Comanche, in 2015, fell.
At 06: 30 UTC on Friday morning, Team Holcim-PRB had reached 640.9 nautical miles.
The conditions have been almost perfect to beat the record: sailing through with 25-27 knots of wind and with the relatively flat state of the sea.
This extreme speed has approached the team just a few miles from the 11th Hour Racing Team, which continues to lead the stage.
Team Holcim-PRB has not been alone on this unprecedented mission. In fact, the first to reach favourable conditions was the 11th Hour Racing Team, which was also the first to top the record.
The Americans made 611.9 nautical miles, a very remarkable achievement if we take into account that the team reported a collision with what the crew... suspects to be a marine mammal or a giant animal...
The ship suffered a sudden brake and, according to the team, the trimer Charlie Dalin suffered what seemed to be a slight concussion and the reporter on board Amory Ross injured his shoulder. After consulting the regatta doctor, who has prescribed rest and control, the team continues to navigate to Aarhus. The ship does not appear to be damaged and remains in front of the fleet.
At about 80 miles per stern, Team Malizia was the last of the trio-head that reached record conditions and the team is beginning to publish impressive statistics. At 10: 00 UTC, the patron Boris Herrmann and his crew were about 625 miles and were still rising.
Later, the crew of Paul Meilhat's Biotherm is still fighting against conditions very different from those of the head trio, and although the speed of his ship is increasing, they are now almost 400 miles behind... the expected arrival for the goal in Aarhus has advanced with record conditions until May 29.
The indispensable homogenization
It should be borne in mind that all the records mentioned in this story must be ratified by the World Sailing Speed Council.
2023-05-25: The Ocean Race: IMOCA already exceeds 550 miles in 24 hours

IMOCA are flying north at a record rate
The next 24 hours in The Ocean Race are certainly interesting, as the head trio will find strong conditions of wind in favor and relatively flat waters, a combination that could produce a new record of distance travelled on a full day.
The 11th Hour Racing Team, at the head of the fleet, has already recorded a stretch of more than 550 miles over the last 24 hours, a figure that is increasing hour by hour.
Team Holcim-PRB and Team Malizia, second and third respectively, strive to match that pace.
The fleet faces a full-speed resistance test with limited tactical opportunities.
Those lost hours and miles are getting worse as the Biotherm is on the unfavourable side of the front and continues to bow against the wind.
2023-05-24: The Ocean Race fleet dancing with the ugliest...

The leaders approach half the blur that makes them fly north at a rate of 500 miles a day...
The last two days of The Ocean Race have been a certainly moved journey as the winds of between 25 and 30 knots interact with the Gulf's current to create an uncomfortable and unpredictable state of the sea... despite that, the head trio has sailed north at a rate of 500 miles daily towards Aarhus.
But this Wednesday they are getting into the center of the blur that is being the protagonist of this stage, and the wind is rolling from the northwest to the southwest, which will require a transfered and at least a few hours of this-southeast course, which is not especially favorable to reach Aarhus.
The 11th Hour Racing Team, at the head of the fleet, has been the first to see this role and the first to transfight. They're having an exhausting race from the very beginning, and pattern Charlie Enright is exhausted.
Now it's impossible to slow down. The first ship to be transferred, the 11th Hour Racing Team, has seen its 15-mile advantage over Team Holcim-PRB disappear, as they have had a very equal crossing within a mile.
The Malizia is close to them, only 16 miles away. If others do not move, there will be a new leader in the next few hours, even if the 11th Hour Racing Team retains a better position tactitically.
Paul Meilhat's Biotherm has lost more miles in the last 24 hours, without finding the rhythm to keep up with the head trio.
The expected arrival in Aarhus remains on 30 May, but there is still some uncertainty about it, which should be clarified in the coming days.
2023-05-23: Rhythm in The Ocean Race... 500 miles in 24 hours

The ships take advantage of very favourable conditions to leave Newport behind, with Aarhus at the point of view
The fifth stage of The Ocean Race has lived for the last 24 hours very fast, in which the teams have traveled about 500 miles on their way to the finish line located in Aarhus... in the middle of Denmark in northern Europe.
The conditions are very favourable to devour miles, as the ships sail through with a north wind of more than 25 knots. The limiting factor right now is the state of the sea, as the wind is fighting the Gulf current, which generates a rather moved journey.
The truth is that the crews are carrying it dramatically. With more than 520 miles under the keel in the last 24 hours, the 11th Hour Racing Team is 15 miles ahead of Team Holcim-PRB, which in turn has a 30-mile advantage over Team Malizia. The Biotherm has lost another 30 miles over them.
And that's exactly what happened. The forecast says the wind will roll south by the end of this week, so the ships should continue to go at full speed across the Atlantic.
2023-05-22: The Ocean Race: 11th Hour Racing Team leads the fleet to Europe

IMOCA are moving east looking for open sea
The 11th Hour Racing Team advances to the head of the fleet this Monday while the four IMOCA earn miles east by entering the Atlantic Ocean.
After sailing between two Marine Mammal Exclusion Areas for much of Sunday night, the race field is beginning to open.
The American pattern Charlie Enright has a slight advantage on the second day of the double score stage to Aarhus (Denmark), with Team Malizia and Team Holcim-PRB right behind. The Biotherm has also reduced the distance to just under 15 miles after being delayed at yesterday's exit.
The conditions of the sea could get worse this week as the ships move to the Gulf current, which the part says will go against the direction of the northern winds... that kind of wind against the current usually brings up the state of the sea dramatically.
2023-05-22: Team Malizia wins the In Port of Newport and leads the fleet in the 5th stage

A perfect day in Newport marks the exit of stage 5 through the Atlantic Ocean towards Aarhus
Newport in Rhode Island, this Sunday, has defended its title as one of the world's largest sailing headquarters, offering excellent conditions for the departure of stage 5 of The Ocean Race.
The pattern Charlie Enright gave the local hobby a reason for joy at the beginning, winning the exit by almost 3 slices and leading the fleet through the first beacon, but shortly after Team Malizia cut the difference in the second stretch and stood in front of it when the wind fell.
The stormy climate of Saturday made the In-Port race postponed for Sunday and the first round of the coastal route of the exit of stage 5 was noted as the Newport In Port Race.
When the fleet passed through the exit door for the last time Team Malizia was just ahead of the 11th Hour Racing Team, followed by Team Holcim-PRB and Biotherm (the results are shown below).
The transatlantic stage towards Aarhus (Denmark) scores double. With three teams separated by one point at the top of the classification, stage 5 is a very important step towards the overall victory of the race.
Boris Herrmann returns at this stage as the patron of Team Malizia, and his team is delighted to lead the fleet to Europe.
The general's leader, Kevin Escoffier's Team Holcim-PRB, is sailing with a new mast. The team has barely had time to prove it, they were only able to sail a couple of hours yesterday before the weather incemences arrived.
For Paul Meilhat's Biotherm, this double-score stage could be the last chance to return to the podium. It is now five points from the first three, so a victory at this stage would greatly contribute to changing the situation.
In Port of Newport classification
1.Team Malizia
2.11th Hour Racing Team
3.Team Holcim-PRB
4.Biotherm
5.Guyot environnement-Team Europe (did not take the exit)
