The Swan Sardinia Challenge has had spectacular conditions that have resulted in a very difficult race for the shipowners and crews participating in this second meeting of the season of The Nations League 2023.

The monotypes of the ClubSwan 50, ClubSwan 42 and ClubSwan 36 classes have met in Villaimius, on the spectacular south-east coast of Sardinia, where the ClubSwan Racing family has been received by the Marina di Villaimius de Marinedi Group, along with the Lega Navale Italia Sez. di Villaimius and the new Yacht Club Marina di Villaimius.

On the first day of the race, the strong winds did not allow the fleet to compete safely, although many took advantage of it to practice kitesurf and wing-fire. The following day, light breezes allowed a single test to be held in the crystalline waters of the Capo Carbonara Protected Marine Area.

The fresh wind returned on the third day of competition to offer conditions that the Finnish Olympic regatist Mikaela Wulff, on board the CS50 Stella Maris, described as epic, and in which part of the fleet reached a spectacular speed of more than 20 knots.

The quote continued to be very adjusted, showing that the class CS50, composed of 13 ships, has had a different winner in each of the four tests held. Finally the Stella Maris (AUT) of August Schram, with a very consistent performance, was made with the victory ahead of the Drifter Sail (ITA) of Andrea Bianchedi and of Vitamin (ITA) of Andrea Lagorte.

It has also been a memorable race for another of the class members, the Django (GBR) of Giovanni Lombardi, who has won his first race of ClubSwan 50, while the Hatari (GER) of Marcus Brennecke, was in the final race.

The ClubSwan 36 class competition has been equally conjured, with the first three classified separate by one point. Richard Thompson's Black Seal (GGY) has led this fierce but friendly fight ahead of the Fra Martina (ITA) of Edoardo and Vanni Pavesio and G-Spot (MON) of Giangiacomo Serena di Lapigio.

The daily trophy delivery of the Swan Sardinia Challenge has been supported by B & G, ClubSwan Racing's Racing Partner, and Gottifredi Maffioli. The Wizard and Friends Dinner was held at the Falkensteiner Hotel, with the picturesque sardo backdrop, and was filled with laughter, interesting stories, shared love for the sailing sport and the celebration of the unity and passion of the Swan family (Photo Studio Borlenghi)

In the tight ClubSwan 42 class, Spain has climbed to the top of the podium with the Nadir (ESP) of Pedro Vaquer, a point ahead of the April Fish (ESP) of José María Meseguer, and with the Koyre - Spirit of Nerina (ITA) of Luca Formentini, being able to keep at bay the Selene-Alifax (ITA) of Massimo De Campo to take the third square.

With all the results of the tests held - and the inability to compete on the last day due to the strong winds and waves - Italy was leading the table of best-qualified countries, thanks to the actions of DrifterSail and Vitamin, ahead of Monaco and Germany.

The next meeting of the exciting ClubSwan Racing season is The Nations Trophy (20-24 June), again in Sardinia, at the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, with the participation of the three classes of monotypes that have shown such a fair and competitive spirit in this Swan Sardinia Challenge.
