The female crews returned to the Vizcaina waters of the Abra for the fourth consecutive year at the EKP Women's Cup - Women's Iberdrola League in the J80 class, which presented a new competition format.
The first tests of this edition were dominated by the Dorsia Covirán alicantino, with Natalia Via Dufresne as patron. It was a 15-kt north-west wind championship start. The third test was one of the most spectacular, with a very exciting arrival between the Dorsia and Team Balearia, winners in Calpe.
The crews were doing better and better maneuvers, adapting to the conditions. Then the wind went down to 8-10 knots and the sky clouded. The maneuvers, at that time, were somewhat easier, with more equality and a domain on that part of the first day of the Decoexsa gipuzcoano, defender of the title in the Abra, with remarkable performance also of the C. N. Arenal, Team Balearia and Surne and Biobizz vizcados.

In a first day with good wind in the Inner Abra, 13 teams who sailed in the system of competition of all against all, technically known as round robin... were involved in the absence of the decisive day of this Sunday.
The tests were more and more tight, with greater competitiveness, although as the day progressed, the tiredness in the teams began to be a little noticed. This Sunday the IV EKP Women's Cup will be decided.
The Royal Maritime Club of the Abra-Real Sporting Club, in the season of its 125th anniversary, organizes this test that promotes the navigation of the female crews and the promotion of their leadership. The Real Federación Española de Vela has established the headquarters of this League Iberdrola 2023, the only Spanish female sailing circuit in monotypes that has already emphasized in the R.C.N. Calpe, this weekend it does so in the Real Club Marítimo del Abra-Real Sporting Club, and then in the R.C.N. Madrid, the C.N. Arenal and the R.C.R. Alicante.

2023-05-19: EKP Women's Cup-Liga Iberdrola, in the cathedral... in the Abra Maritime

The Real Club Marítimo del Abra - Real Sporting Club will welcome this weekend the second date of the Spanish circuit of women's sailing
The second meeting of the Iberdrola League of Women's Sailing will be held this weekend in Getxo coinciding with the fourth edition of the EKP Women's Cup of the Royal Abra Maritime Club - Real Sporting Club, which this year celebrates its 125 anniversary
After the good sensations of the League's first race, which was held last month in Calpe, this time there will be 13 women's teams that will be playing the two days of competition... after the Basque meeting, the League will be held up with competitions in: the Real Club Náutico de Madrid, Club Náutico S'Arenal and Real Club de Regatas de Alicante.
If in Calpe the teams were released on board the Tom28, now the turn of the J80 class comes. The Royal Maritime Club of the Abra-Real Sporting Club has made these monotypes available to the crews, thus complying with the rule that each headquarters of the Iberdrola League provides a different class of monotype, giving a more competitive circuit.
Today, the teams have been able to have a first contact with the J80 in the official training races organized by the host club. Tonight, at the Club de Las Arenas, referred to among the historical clubs... the cathedral of the Spanish candle... will be held the welcome ceremony for the crews that will be measured from tomorrow in the waters of the Abra. In addition to the sports program, the Club has a crew dinner, tomorrow Saturday, and a cocktail for the Sunday awards.
The RCNP Baleària Team, thanks to its status as leader of the provisional classification, is the main rival to beat. Palma's team demonstrated great solvency in its adaptation to the Tom28 of Calpe and should not have problems in J80, a class in which its crew are used to sailing.
But to repeat the gestures of Calpe on this occasion, they will have to deal, among others, with the Decoexsa, the best female team of the world of J80 of 2021, or the Dorsia Covirán, winner of the Iberdrola League 2022 that was fully disputed in these monotypes. In the Getxo race, the ZeroWomens de Hondarribia, the Vizcains of the Biobizz, Surne and Ausart, and the Majorcan team of the Arenal Nautical Club are also added to the group of women's teams of the Iberdrola League.
