Digitization and sustainable technologies, key to Innovation Corner

Nautica Digital Europe

The association, composed of 18 companies, aims to defend the interests of the sector and promote the use of electric ships, as well as to inform society as a whole about the benefits of electrical navigation

In order to support new technology companies in the field of navigation, the Palma Superyacht Village, in the framework of the 39 edition Palma International Boat Show, has, for the first time, an Innovation Corner during the four days in which the Hall is operational.

This new initiative aims to promote a dialogue between new companies and professionals in the nautical industry, generating a debate on the future of navigation and technology in the coming years.

Yachting Ventures, a global start-up business centre for the navigation and recreational navigation industries, provides the knowledge and opportunities for small businesses and startups to make themselves known and to seek funding for their projects.

Baleares is a key nautical center as the sector generates 966 million euros and occupies more than 5,000 people. With the infrastructure already established, the islands are a strategic place to launch a startup of the nautical sector.

The use of tools, platforms and digital software substantially improves efficiency and transparency for all actors involved in the navigation industry, including yacht patterns, crew, charter & sales brokers, as well as sports ports.

Sailing at the expense of the planet is no longer acceptable... at present, there are various alternatives that can make a big change, such as alternative propulsion and fission technologies, they ensure from Innovation Corner.

This is why, since the Govern, up to EUR 15 million of the PITEIB has been made available to the nautical companies to advance the process of electrification of the ships and to bet on the decarbonisation of the nautical sector.

These investments can encourage the manufacture of zero-emission vessels in the Balearic Islands to improve the Community's sustainable industrial fabric, as well as the acquisition of vessels for individuals and companies, as well as electrical propulsion systems for existing vessels.

The estimated turnover of the companies dedicated to electric propulsion at sea would exceed 3 million euros this year, according to the forecasts of the National Association of Electric Boats (ANBE), which today presents its lines of action within the framework of the Palma International Boat Show.

According to the association, some 700 units of electric engines are expected to be sold this year at the national level, a figure they expect to increase. By way of example, they ensure that the European company leading in electric engines has already equipped more than 200,000 ships with electric propulsion. They also ensure that this is a sector with training opportunities, as more than 20 national companies need professionals and skilled labour.
