The Greek Hermionie Ghicas and the Italians Nicoló Giuseppe Cassitta and Lorenzo Ghirotti, are the new European champions of ILCA 4, proclaimed in Cadiz after six days of regatta since last Monday, April 17, and to end, a day in which conditions changed again after the passage of a front that brought calm to the Gaditan bay. Winds of seven knots of medium intensity accompanied the participants in the achievement of the latest tests, which close the classification with a total of twelve boys and two less girls. The ILCA class youth will certainly remember their passage through Cadiz and the championship as one of the most competitive and complete in class history.

The Italian Nicoló Giuseppe Cassitta is the new European champion of ILCA 4 in the absolute category, being made with a title that he has had in his hands since the first day and trial in this long week. Cassita is fired with a 4th, and a 33rd that in nothing affects its superiority. The other continental champion among the boys is the Italian Lorenzo Ghirotti, who wins the last test and wins in the category Sub 16, the title of which is left to three points the Spanish Tim Lubat. The regatist of the RCN of Palma de Mallorca has little to fail to complete its great rebound and to recover the throne in its category after scoring a second and a fourth today.

At all, the podium is 100% Italian, with the second and third place for Salvatore Falchi and Alessandro Cortese, silver and bronze, respectively. For its part after Ghirotti and Lubat, the bronze Sub 16 is for the Turkish Kutsal Gunes Kurnaz. In this category the first Andalusian regatist is Alberto Medel, of CN Sevilla, sixth among the Spaniards, while Roberto Aguilar of CNM Benalmádena is classified third Spanish Sub 18 in the top7.

The Greek Hermionie Ghicas takes advantage of its large income and discards to confirm its European title with a 28th in the last race. Ghicas achieves the double and hangs the 16 and absolute Sub medal, escorted on the podium by his compatriot Maria Eleni Kalakona, winner of the last trial, and the Polish Hanna Rogowska, third absolute and subchampion Sub 16. The third post in this category is signed by the Israeli Gaya Datiashvili. The Andalusian Marta Franco, of the team of the Elcano Nautical Center, today loses the first place among the Spanish ones, which ends up in the hands of the Allegra Mattos Balear with an 8th in front of a 17th of the Gaditana, both classified in the thirteenth and fourteenth place of the general, respectively.

2023-04-21: Italy takes the first places in the European ILCA4 in Cadiz

The European Championship of ILCA 4, marked by the 15 knots of average intensity, the penultimate day has been resolved with three new tests for all.

Among the boys, the Italian Nicoló Giuseppe Cassitta holds the lead one day, but reduces to six the advantage of points with his compatriot Salvatore Falchi. Cassitta adds another 1 and a 3rd and strips of discards to get rid of a 24th in the last test, in which Falchi scored a second after winning the second and opening the day with a 5th.

Both open the gap with the next one classified at more than forty points, the Italian Alessandro Cortese, who has followed his back to place third after winning the other test of the day. The Italian team's domain continues in the fourth place occupied by Lorenzo Ghiroti, first Sub 16 to twelve points of the absolute podium, followed with one more point by the Greek Theophiles Stylitis.

Very roundabout is the impact of the Sub 16 Hermionie Ghicas among the girls, where the Greek has access to a more than solvent lead after winning two tests today. Her reaction and the lack of regularity and result of the rivals already leave her caressing the continental title, with over half a hundred points on her compatriot Maria Eleni Kalakona. Both push down the Polish Hanna Rogowska, who defended the lead and ends the third day with the possibility of fighting for the second place three points from the Greek.

The fourth option is also maintained, the French Gilda Dondona with six more points, and the Ukrainian Alina Shapovalova and the Finnish Inés Ruohela, tied to points in the fifth and sixth place, respectively. Among the Spanish ones, the Andalusian Marta Franco of the Elcano Nautical Center team, which is located in the vigesimosegunda, continues to shine with the best in the world.

2023-04-20: European ILCA4... relaxing day where light weights shone

The bay of Cadiz surprises the seekers. The change of direction and fall of the wind distributes justice and protagonism in all fleets in the absence of two days (Photo Agustín Argüelles)

Change of third in the Gaditan Bay in the fourth day of the European Championship of ILCA 4, held on Thursday under very different conditions due to the change of the wind from Levante to Poniente and the decrease of intensity to maximum of 8 knots. Day that also started later, after two in the afternoon, something that the participants thanked after the Wednesday beating, and that was resolved with two more tests for all.

The Italian Nicoló Giuseppe Cassitta takes off among the boys, already renting seven points to the next classified, his compatriot Salvatore Falchi. Cassita broke his unbatibility at a discreet start with a 5th but was done again with the race area and the new conditions winning the following test. Falchi also played the first test, although in his case it was much more serious with a 33rd that he can rule out in order not to get older. The sixth in the next test and the lower pressure of the rivals, allows you to follow second and break the tie with the French Quentin Wallbott, today sixteenth in both tests, with more than ten points in your favor.

The fourth position is now for the Max Cheli galo, which rises a post but looks at the podium with the distance given by the eleven points that separate it. The Italian Leonardo Locci is followed with six more points, tied with the first Sub 16, a provisional title that goes on to defend the Spanish Tim Lubat, 7th and 4th today. The shooting is obliged to remain fine as it has only four points to its immediate rival, the Italian Lorenzo Ghiroti, which closes the top10 as second Sub 16. The next Spanish is the canary Pol Núñez in the thirteenth place, and the first regatist of the host community is Roberto Aguilar of the CNM Benalmádena in place 33.

I turn total in the female classification, where the two athletes who today defended the leadership tied to points, the American Isabella Mendoza, now sixth, and the Dutch Amelie Swen, who goes down from second to thirteenth. The new leader is the Polish sub 16 Hanna Rogowska, 8th and 3rd today, followed by three more points by the Greek Hermionie Ghicas, also Sub 16, which is worth a 10th and discards another.

With ten more points, the third place is now for the first Sub 18, French Joana Alves Lourenco, a regatist that validates an 11th and owes the square to the discard with which it resolves the tie with the Ukrainian Alina Shapovalova, fourth. The top5 is closed by the winner of the two tests today, the French Gilda Dondona with five more points. It has not been a good day for the champion of Spain and defender of the European title, the Valencian Irene de Tomás, who goes down to position 25 with a day to forget. Three positions below is the Andaluza of the CN Elcano, Marta Franco, just three points from the Valencian.

Tomorrow will be a decisive day for the great end of Saturday. The Committee provides for two new tests with the first exits from one in the afternoon and a forecast of Poniente wind of ten knots of average intensity.

2023-04-19: European of ILCA4 in the bay of Cadiz... favorites squeeze

The favorites press after another day marked by the strong wind of rising in the Gaditana bay... the Gaditana Marta Franco, the Malagueños Roberto Aguilar and Noa Zabell, the Sevillian Miguel Gómez and the almeiens Daniel Espejo and Martín Fresneda are classified in the gold group (Photo Agustín Arguelles)

The ILCA 4 European Championship came to its equator on Wednesday and has done so on an extremely demanding day given the wind conditions in the Gaditan Bay... after yesterday's blank day, today it was important to complete a minimum of two tests in order to be able to have the groups gold, silver and bronze among the boys, and gold and silver the girls... problem that has been solved with three new tests for the boys who add up to five, and two for the girls with a total of four in their locker, with the possibility of a discard in each case.

The equator already involves the classification of the male gold (75) and female (83) groups, whose members will now be those who opt for continental titles.

Equality continues to dominate the women's fleet, where the first two girls, the American Isabella Mendoza and the Dutch Amelie Swen, are tied to points, with the European leadership provisional for the latter, which manages to take off thanks to the discards of a seventh. The third place is the Ukrainian Alina Shapovalova with three more points, followed only two by the first Sub 16, the Greek Hermionie Ghicas and the Croatian Nora Gotovac, tied to nine points.

With only one more, the sixth place of the general - the fourth of Europe - is held by the champion of Spain and defender of the continental crown, the Valencian Irene de Tomas, who adds a second today and discards a seventh, which forces her not to make many failures in the remaining championship, considering that she is stepped on her heels at a very short distance. The second Sub 16 is Polish Hanna Rogowska, three places below the Spanish one with only three points between them.

The court leaves in the gold group more than a dozen Spaniards and among them the regatists of the host community, Marta Franco of the Elcano Nautical Centre and Noa Zabell of the Benalmádena CNM, at positions 43 and 49, respectively.

Impressive will also be the final line among the boys, where one more day has been untreatable the Italian Nicoló Giuseppe Cassitta, silver in 2022, which remains imbued after five tests. The superiority in his group allows him to lead the provisional general, but the pressure remains intact, as it has a single point to his compatriot Salvatore Falchi and French Quentin Wallbott, tied to five points after winning the three tests today in their respective groups.

The proximity between the applicants continues below, with the Cypriot Emilio Max Boeros fourth to two points, followed by the Max Cheli Galo at the same distance, as the first Sub 16, the Italian Manuel Henk Vos, to whom the Italian Leonardo Locci, seventh. The first Spanish, the shooting Sergio García, is followed by the second Sub 16 with the discard of a twelve. It also improves the canary Pol Núñez, now ninth to a point in his compatriot.

Among the Spaniards who enter the first group is the champion of Spain and continental bronze in 2022, the ballet Xavier Garcia, and the hosts Roberto Aguilar of the CNM Benalmádena, Martín Fresneda and Daniel Espejo del CM Almería and Miguel Gómez del CN Sevilla.

2023-04-18: European ILCA4: the Levant comes up in the Gaditan bay and does not allow to sail on the second day

As the great Nicolas Terry says... the mother who gave birth to the Levant! (Photo Agustín Arguelles)

The rising wind came up on Tuesday in the Gaditana Bay and has not even let the participants in the European Championship of ILCA 4, which is held until next Saturday in Cadiz. The race committee did go out to sea early, but once the checks were made, it made the only possible decision and ended the day.

2023-04-17: European of ILCA4: the rising wind joins the feast in the bay of Cadiz

With magnificent conditions for haggling, the two tests planned for the first of the six days included in the program have been completed, which have involved a total of ten exits, taking into account that the boys' fleet is divided into three groups and the girls into two. The nerves became evident from the beginning in the children's fleet, with a first exit that had to be repeated by an off-line of almost 100% of one group (Photo Agustin Arguelles)

Cadiz and its bay have welcomed the participants in the ILCA 4 Youth European Championship, with a first day marked by the typical wind of Levante, which was expected to surprise everyone in the middle of the morning, up to over twenty knots in the two areas of race.

The favorites do not fail in this first assault, which ends between the boys with two regatists doing full in their group; the French Max Cheli and the Italian Nicoló Giuseppe Cassitta, each imbecile in their fleet. The third group, where the Cypriot Emilio Max Boeros leads with a second and a first, is in the third provisional position in the classification, is a bit more in line. The equality is almost total among the boys, with the next one classified at one point from the previous one, the Italian Salvatore Falchi, second in the two tests in the Cassitta group, followed at the same distance by the first Sub 16, the Italian Manuel Henk Vos, 1st and 4th.

On the back, at one point, three regatists are aligned to six points, the Quentin Walbott (4th, 2nd), the Greek Vassilis Koukoudis (3rd, 3rd) and the Italian Leonardo Locci (3rd, 3rd) in the eighth place, followed by three more points by the first Spanish, the regatist of Cambrils, Joan Fargas, which premires with a 3rd and 6th. In the fight for the title Sub 16, the second candidate is today the German Levian Buscher with six more points than the Italian Vos, and fourth is the Sergio García ballet.

Virtually the same equality occurs among girls, although in this case she leads the Ukrainian Alina Shapovalova alone with two. They follow one and two points the American Isabela Mendoza, 4th and 1st, and the Czech Kristyna Flosmanova, 2nd and 4th, sailing the two in the other group, where the other victory of the day was awarded by the Greek Hermione Ghicas, which is placed in the head of the Sub 16 championship.

The woman's continental title defender, the Spanish Irene de Tomas, the 5th and 3rd in her own fleet, and the Czech Linda Dokoupilova with two 4th in the other group, are in charge with her. With one more point, the seventh is the Dutch Amelie Swen that went from an 8th to a 1st, followed by three and four more points by the Greek Theodora Daferera (6th, 6th) and the second aspirant to the title Sub 16, the Spanish of Tenerife, Laura Benitez, 3rd and 10th today.
