The Vizcaina waters of the Abra were again a sailing party with the first year of the Trophy José Luis Azqueta of light sail, organized by the Real Club Marítimo del Abra-Real Sporting Club in the year its 125th anniversary.

During two days they sailed over 200 Basque, Cantabrian and Asturian regatists, who discovered a beautiful picture with hundreds of candles in the regatta fields in the interior and outside Abra. The couple of the Real Club Astur de Regatas formed by Aida Marqués de Fae and Carlos Fernández registered their name as absolute winners.

The final Sunday test began later than expected pending the wind. The ships of the class ILCA and Snipe had north-east wind of 12 to 14 knots in an interesting and spectacular day, and the tens of ships of the class Optimist and FEVA competed with north-west wind of 5 to 8 knots.

The three sleeves planned on the decisive day were completed in Optimist, after which Iñigo Jáuregui was proclaimed a champion with much superiority, after being imposed on four routes and being second on the other two. Nicolás Bastard, from R.C.M.A.-R.S.C., and Maura Echarri, from Hondarribia, completed the podium. Lukas Etxetxikia, from the Real Club Marítimo de San Sebastián, was the best in Optimist 2.

On the other hand, the Asian couple Aida Marqués and Carlos Fernández, from Real Club Astur de Regatas, confirmed their favoritism after the six tests of the FEVA class, in which they ended up in front of the also Asturians Rodrigo Llanes and Miguel Ribera and Jon Berástegui and Vera Aguirre of the organizing club.

Aida Marqués and Carlos Fernández were the absolute winners with five first positions and a second. Paul Emezabal, of San Sebastián, defeated in ILCA 4 after unbanishing the leadership on the second day to Lorea Elduayen, of Hondarribia, with whom he tied to seven points. The Vizcaina waters of the Abra received more than 200 regatists from different communities in the XXI Trophy José Luis Azqueta of light sail, organized by the Real Club Marítimo del Abra-Real Sporting Club, which this year celebrates its 125th anniversary. The participants of the Optimist and FEVA classes sailed in the interior Abra and the ILCA and Snipe in the regatta field of the outside Abra, with an initial wind from the northwest of ten to fifteen knots to go down to six along the initial day.

The turn for the José Luis de Azqueta Regata in its twenty-first edition, which together with the José Luis de Ugarte Trophy, are the most consolidated and important in the Cantábrico.

A hundred Optimist, forty ILCA, fifteen FEVA and a dozen 420 and Snipe... the race fields on six planned routes (three on Saturday, April 15, from 13: 00, and three on Sunday, 16: 00, from 11: 00).

This Trophy, which has long become the cantaign cornice, is organized by the Real Club Marítimo del Abra-Real Sporting Club, which is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year, and the José Luis de Ugarte School of Sailing, with the collaboration of the Vizcana and Vasca de Vela Federations, the City of Getxo, the Diputación Foral de Bizkaia, El Correo and WOR-60.

Dozens and dozens of young regatists of Basque clubs, cants, Navarre and Asturians will sail on a double-day basis in one of the most popular competitions of this specialty: the José Luis Azqueta Trophy, which now meets 21 editions in the Vizcaina waters of the Abra, the beautiful stage this weekend with hundreds of small candles at sea on one of the most relevant dates on the calendar that program the Basque light candle. This outstanding and always participatory race makes it possible for the promises of this sport from different backgrounds and clubs to define its status in this section of the season near the summer. The light candle thus returns to the Abra with one of the most expected tests and with a large participation of clubs throughout the Cantabrian.

The winners last year, among 175 participants, were Lorea Elduayen in ILCA 4, Gabriel Oraá in ILCA 6, Beñat Lizaso and Iker Aramendi in 420, Covadonga Fernández and Carmen Simal in FEVA and Iñigo Jauregui - the absolute winner - and Markel García in Optimist.
