Don Ramón Zubiaga, President of the RCMA-RSC 1979- 1981

Del Real Club Marítimo del Abra - Real Sporting Club, Ramón Zubiaga Carles stressed: We have lived in Las Arenas since 1942, next to the Pendant Bridge. Our life in summer, when there was no school, was the boarder and being around the Club and Sporting, until they let us be partners. In the Maritime he entered in the summer with the end of the day and we used the Club as a meeting area, to play the shellfish, billiards...
Ramón Zubiaga Carles (1940), regatist and president of the Royal Maritime Club of the Abra-Real Sporting Club between 1979 and 1981, died. He was first vice president with Carlos Lipperheide, a time when as he recently detailed in an interview... There were also Luis Guzmán, Pepe Orbegozo, Ignacio Pagadigorria... at a time when the Club was played... his son Ramón Zubiaga, patron of the Mandovi, has also until recently been president of the Club de Las Arenas from 2018 to 2021.
His father was a naval engineer and designed race ships, like the Maria Victoria of the Valdés family, and others he designed for this same family and also for ours. They were ships that were prepared for the races of that time, those of English-Spain, like the Brixham@-@ Santander. My father Ramón made that race with the Maria Victoria, a 20-foot boat, but he told me they didn't look good. He was a very busy man and my brother Joseph and I, in summer, used to take out the Green Ray ship. That's where my hobby started. It was a big ship that I imagine would then be worth some money for two juniors to use. He first bought it from Estanis Osborne, who had it in Palma for many years, and there he bought it from Javier Cano, who brought it to Bilbao.I remember.
All our lives we were on the pier running with oars. There were people with Snipes, but I've never been a little candle. From there, we were embarking on everything that was regatta. They were Galeas, basically. I sailed a lot with Count Zubiría in the Zul. Here we were doing many races, such as the Castro Cup, the Lequeitio Cup, tests in Santander, San Sebastián, Arcachon... this whole area. There was a lot of hobbies, and we got into a lot of hours. I went to sail with the Kalima of Emilio Ybarra and Nacho Aznar, reflected a few dates ago.
Ramón Zubiaga Carles sailed with Ramón Churruca, Jorge Churruca, Juan Olábarri, Rufo Arbaiza... almost the whole group linked to the Sporting partners who left us in the year 80 in a marathon. We left at night. I have very good memories of the Sporting. We were taking a bath there. What a bath! When we were partners, at 12, they let us go to the Sporting, but we had to leave at one. We used the trampoline. It was classic that they taught you how to swim and hold the water. When we were older, we made good merendolas, and the shaman was playing with noise. We were a nice group of people. From the age of 17 you were a number partner. We were people here from Las Arenas: Rufo Arbaiza, Nacho Aznar, Count Zubiría, Emilio Ybarra. We were all day together living close by in Las Arenas. We have suffered all the desmations of bad weather as we were above the Ria, he remembered.
Everything he saw in his house and read was around the ships. He did the Fasnet with the Machichaco. I think we were rooms in our class. There were Juan Olábarri, Jorge Churruca, Dr. Bernar, Vallejo, there was the Cho, then a child.... His memories of the sea, the Maritime, the Sporting, the races... are countless. Rest in peace.
