Beautiful closing day for cruise and monotypes of the Princess Sofia Trophy

The 52 Princess Sofia Trophy of cruises and monotypes was fired with an excellent day with winds of more than 25 knots in the bay of Palma, conditions that prevented sailing to the Dragon and 6 Meters classes
Sal (J80), Patakin (J70), Stella (6 Metros), Mr. Nova (Dragon), Santina (ORC 1-3), Abracadabra (ORC 4-5) and Kyo V (A2) were proclaimed winners in their respective classes of the 52 Trophy Princess Sofia Mallorca by Iberostar of cruises and monotypes... in which 60 ships from ten countries have scored.
The strong north-west wind was the protagonist of the third and last day of competition with rachas of more than 25 knots in the bay of Palma. At times, the intensity was such that categories 6 Meters and Dragon could not navigate so as not to risk crews and ships. The J / 70 and J / 80 monotypes completed three barlovento / sotavento sleeves and the cruises a coastal route.
The Sal certified his victory in class J80. The boat patrolled by Helena Alegre remained at the head of the general from the first day and was able to measure its advantage to take the title in this 52 Princess Sofia Trophy. Second finished the British Project Puffin by James Waugh, followed by German Jotajț, by Gerhard Henssen.
In J70 there was a nice duel between the hang Ten of Jorge Martínez Doreeste and the Patakin of Luis Albert. The canaries advanced when they were imposed on the first test of the day, but were fourth in the next for a second position of their rival. Both teams reached the ninth and final manga, in which the Patakin was better able to play his cards and achieved the final triumph. The podium of this category was completed by the Tenaz of Pablo Garriga.
The monotypes of classes 6 Meters and Dragon could not navigate through the strong intensity of the wind, so the classification was closed with the results of the previous day. With four completed tests, the Stella de Violeta Alvarez took the title in category 6 Metros and the MR. Jorge Forteza's Nova in Dragon.
The cruises contested a coastal race in the form of a zigzag with exit and arrival in the bay of Palma. After taking a buoy, the fleet went to Illetas and then set a buoy in front of Can Pastillla and finished the test in front of the Cathedral of Palma. In total, a distance between 17 and 20 nautical miles depending on length and category.
Some sailboats decided not to take the exit because of the strong wind and others could not finish the tour. That was the case with the Germans of the Immac Fram, leaders of the classification of the 1-3 BC class, who chose to withdraw from the test by opening the door to the Santina of Thomas Rudewald to win today's test and to award the final victory.
The Abracadabra, with Mark Sadler on the rod, was the best of the 4-5 ORC division. In the podium he was accompanied by the Mestral Fast of Jaime Morell, second, and the Three Seas of Maria Campins, third.
The ORC A2 category did not change the previous day's classification. The Kyo V of Ana Majada took the final triumph, followed by the Maribel of Antonio Arnau Ripoll and the January of Pedro Marí, winner of today's last coastal test.
2023-03-01: The cruises join the monotypes in Princess Sofia

More than half a hundred boats sailed on the second day of competition of the 52 Trophy Princess Sofia Mallorca by Iberostar with fantastic conditions in the bay of Palma that allowed to complete the program planned in all classes
The ORC category sailboats joined the monotypes on the second day of competition of the 52 Trophy Princess Sofia, bringing together more than half a hundred boats in the bay of Palma, which was waiting for the fleet with magnificent conditions of sun and wind.
The races began with a half-hour delay over the scheduled schedule while the Committee was waiting for the wind to begin. From that moment on, it blew from the south-west with an average intensity of 15 knots, conditions very similar to those that were recorded in the opening day and that are ideal for the practice of the candle.
The monotypes J / 80 and J / 70 completed three barlovento / sotavento sleeves, the categories of 6 Meters, Dragon and ORC two tests, and the cruises with reduced crew (A2) a single race consisting of a 17-mile coastal route with exit in the bay of Palma towards the island of Sa Porrasa and then return in the opposite direction to a buoy located in front of San Juan de Dios and finish in front of the port of Palma.
The Sal continues to dominate the J80 class without giving its rivals a choice. The boat patrolled by Helena Alegre added two more partial wins and a second place, a result that allows it to lead the general classification in a hollow way. He was followed by the British Project Puffin of James Waugh, winner of the second test of the day, and the German Jotajē of Gerhard Henssen.
In J / 70, the great protagonist of the day was the Hang Ten of Jorge Martínez Doreeste by winning two wins and a second place. Luis Albert's Patakin is still in front of the category, now tied to eight points with the canary team, so tomorrow's races will be crucial to deciding the winner in J70.
In class 6 Metros there was a change of leader. The Stella de Violeta Alvárez won the first test of the day and was third in the next one, taking advantage of the Ginkkotoo's descent to place itself at the head of the provisional. He is accompanied on the podium by two Swiss crews: the Momo of Dieter Erich SCHOEN, who won the second test of the day, and the Ginkkotoo of Jan Eckert.
A similar situation was experienced in the Dragon category, in which the MR. Nova gave a blow to authority by winning the last sleeve and leading the classification. The team at the Real Club Nautico de Palma adds nine points in their locker, the same as Pete Cooke's True Story of English, which announces a very tight and exciting ending.
In ORC 1-3, the Germans of the Immac Fram of the shipowner Kai Maresse took the two disputed tests, the same result that the mallorkines of the Abracadabra, with Mark Sadler to the cane, in class ORC 4-5.
In ORC A2, the Kyo V of Ana Majada was imposed on the coastal crossing, followed by the Maribel of Antonio Arnau Ripoll and the Skipper Sailing Club of Jorge Sanz.
The 52 Princess Sofia Trophy of cruises and monotypes is resolved tomorrow, Sunday. The final day program provides for a coastal ORC test from 12 noon. They'll be sailed by more cane races.
2023-03-31: The southwest accompanies the monotypes at the premiere of Princess Sofia

Regatists from Spain and Portugal are fighting the trophy, which defends the Madrid Victor Pérez Campos
The good wind of the south-west accompanied the monotypes in the premiere of the 52nd Trophy Princess Sofia Mallorca by Iberostar. The fleet brought together 27 vessels of the J80, J70, 6 meters and dragon classes.
The J80 and J70 monotypes were able to complete the three scheduled barlovent / sotavent sleeves, while the categories of 6 Meters and Dragon held two tests.
The Sal was the great dominator between the J / 80. The boat patrolled by Helena Alegre, which has among its crew Cati Darder, president of the Balearic Vela Federation, was imposed on all three tests to be clearly placed in the head of the general. The British Project Puffin of James Waugh and Gerhard Henssen's German Jotajē are following him on the provisional.
In J70, Luis Albert's Patakin also signed a full of victories. The RCN Palma boat adds three points and leads a classification in which the Hang Ten, by Jorge Martínez Doreeste, is second, followed by the Tenaz of Pablo Garriga.
Much more disputed was the debut of the class 6 Metros, in which the Swiss Ginkkotoo, of Jan Eckert, premiered with a triumph in the first day, although he could not match his performance in the second, signing a fourth. With these two results, the Ginkkotoo leads the provisional tied to five points with the Tella de Violeta Alvárez. The other victory of the day corresponded to Maybe XIV of Eugene Galdon, a provisional fourth.
Among the Dragons, Willy's regularity served the German team to stand in front of the classification. The Hanns Peter Burkhardt are four points, one less than Pete Cooke's True Story and MR. The nova of Jorge Forteza, winners today of one test each, and who accompany him on the provisional podium.
The 52 Princess Sofia Trophy will resume tomorrow, Saturday, in the Royal Nautical Club of Palma from noon with the incorporation of the cruise ships. The monotypes classes and the ORC cruises plan to fight more tests of the type barlovento / sotavento, while the cruises with crew A2 will take a coastal journey.
