950 ships from 63 countries confirmed a month from the Princess Sofia

More than 950 ships from 63 countries have formalized their pre-registration in the absence of a month for the start of the 52 Trophy Princess Sofia Mallorca, confirming the excellent health of the Olympic class race that will inaugurate the Sailing World Cup 2023
Preparations for the 52 Princess Sofia Mallorca Trophy are progressing at a good pace. The race will meet from March 29 to April 8 in Palma Bay to the ten Olympic classes that will compete in Paris 2024, and the level of pre-registration announces a historic edition.
In the absence of a month for the start of the competition, 952 teams and more than 1,200 regatists of 63 nationalities have already formalized their pre-registration, an exceptional figure that confirms the return to pre-pandemic levels.
The pandemic reduced the Olympic cycle between Tokyo and Paris from the usual four years to three, an exception that convulsed the regatist programs, teams and federations, and that conditioned events such as the Princess Sofia Mallorca Trophy, which could not be held in 2020 and 2021. In 2022 he returned with force, bringing together more than a thousand regatists and about 800 ships but accusing of absences as prominent as China or Japan, which kept their borders closed, and Russia by the global veto.
Three classes show quota tensions: 49er, with 101 pre-registered and a maximum of 90; Formula Kite Men, with 122 against the limit of 100; and ILCA 7, with 185 applications received and 180 places available.
The distribution of participants by class and nationality is very irregular. The ranking by number of pre-registered in the absence of one month is headed by ILCA 7 (185), followed by Formula Kite Men (122), ILCA 6 (118), iQFOiL Men (115), 49er (101), iQFOiL Women (76), 470 Mixed (67), 49er FX (61), Nacra 17 (55) and Formula Kite Women (52). By number of participants, France is the federation that provides the most equipment (82), followed by Spain (77), Great Britain (64), Italy (62), China (59) and Germany (50). 13 other countries arrive in Mallorca with a single representative: Brunéi, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Saint Lucia, Lithuania, Monaco, Puerto Rico, Romania, Slovakia, Uruguay, Republic of Vanuatu and Ukraine, which this year will be represented by Sofia Naumenco in the competing class ILCA 6.
The 2023 Sailing World Cup 52 Trophy S.A.R. Princess Sofia Mallorca is held under the joint organization of the Club Nàutic S'Arenal, the Club Marítimo San Antonio de la Playa, the Real Club Náutico de Palma, the Real Federación Española de Vela and the Federación Balear de Vela, with the support of World Sailing and the main public institutions baleares.
