The Royal Galician Federation of Vela held its traditional Gala de la Vela in the historic village of As Pontes de García Rodríguez in the Municipal Auditorium and with the collaboration of the Concello of the Coruñesa town and the Diputación de A Coruña.

Sports, clubs, technicians, judges and collaborators were the great protagonists of a night in which more than 120 awards were given in recognition of the merits obtained during the last season.

Nico Rodríguez and Támara Echegoyen took one of the great awards of the gala, that of the best Olympic regatists. Their sporting commitments - both immersed in their Olympic preparation - prevented them from being present to personally collect the award, but they did send a thank-you video in which they took advantage to launch a message of support for the new generations.

But the Gala de la Vela recognized not only athletes and technicians, but also clubs such as the Royal Nautical Club of Sanxenxo for the 6-metre World Cup, the Mount Real Club of Yates for the 52 Super Series Baiona Sailing Week, the Royal Nautical Club of Vigo for the World of Vairen and the Royal Nautical Club of Portosin, which revalidated in 2022 its title as winner of the Galicia Cup of Cruises.

The one in charge of closing a gala that was threatened by two performances of the municipal dance school was the mayor of As Pontes, Valentín González Formoso, and did so by reminding the Royal Galician Federation of Vela that Here you have a villa that welcomes you and welcomes you enchanted for any test, event and everything you need throughout the year... It was González Formoso who, in addition, collected the last prize of the night and one of the most special, the Best Project for the Promotion of Sailing by the Sailing Campaign of the Recession of A Coruña.
