The Royal Galician Federation of Vela has chosen the town of Coruñesa in support of its River Sailing Club

As Pontes de García Rodríguez, the historic villa of Galicia in the province of La Coruña... will be the meeting point of the Galician candle... for with the sponsorship of its Concello, it will host the Gala de Remo de Galicia, next day 24.

With one of the most extensive artificial lakes in Europe, created in the filling of the old lignite mine managed by Endesa, As Pontes has a number of infrastructures that facilitate the development of different nautical activities, including the practice of sailing sport, thanks to the creation of its River Club, in which the Optimist and Vaien are some of its star classes.

One of these legendary structures of As Pontes... is its old Cine Alovi, current Municipal Auditorium and which will be the ideal framework for the celebration of the Gala de la Vela Gallega, corresponding to the sports merits and personal, institutional and business recognition of 2022.

More than 120 awards will be delivered on February 24, of which some have already transgressed, such as the award for the Best Olympic Regatists, which in male category has fallen into the figure of Nicolás Rodríguez, being in female category the recognition for Támara Echegoyen.

The Technician of the Year is for Juan Portela, coach of the IQ Foil class, getting with the Galician team excellent results in the world of Cyprus. The Special Mention to his Trayectoria is for Carlos Agra, sports director of the Real Club Náutico Sanxenxo, an indisputable figure in the Galician candle, as well as the Special Mention to the Best Judge, an award that recognizes the merits of Manuel Carlos Rodríguez... Litos.

The Inland Sailing Club of As Pontes takes the Special Mention of Support to Sailing Sport, being the Best Promotion for the Sailing Campaign of Provincial Diputación of A Coruña.

The Spanish Navy will collect another Special Mention for the commemoration of the 5th Centenary of the Circumnavigation to the Earth and Varadero Communication will do so as Best Nautical Communication Project.

Finally, in this first advance, the Royal Galician Federation of Vela communicates the awards to the three Best International Events held in the Galician community during the course of 2022, as have been the World Cup of 6 Metros, organized by the Royal Nautical Club of Sanxenxo; the 52 Super Series - Baiona Sailing Week, the Mount Real Club of Bayona Yates; and the World of Vaien, the Royal Nautical Club of Vigo.
