Barcelona bets on the value of catamaran events

The cruise catamaran sector is experiencing spectacular growth. The great stability and habitability of this type of boat has been a demand to capture a large part of the new sailors and also to experienced shipowners who have decided to change to this type of ship (Photo Torveo) Two event
The Sal Road on April 6 and the Multihull Rally & Race on May 13 make Barcelona, and Port Ginesta in particular, a pole of attraction for the cruise catamarans.
Despite the growth of this nautical subsector, to date there were no events adapted to the philosophy and technique of navigation in catamaran, which largely differs from the classical navigation in monocascos.
The captains who ventured to go to some race or event faced a number of obstacles: problems with the tie, could not be integrated into the classifications, etc. Two events come to give an answer to this situation.
Both events are organized in Port Ginesta, founder of Multihull Friendly Marinas, an entity that brings together the ports specially adapted to receive properly catamarans and trimarans, in which also Sant Carles Marina, Port Adriano and the Nautical Club Estartit participate.
The Route of Salt
The first event adapted to the catamarans is La Ruta de la Sal, the most popular high race in Spain, which will be held on April 6 coinciding with a holy week. It offers two alternative tours, with one destination: Sant Antoni de Portmany in Ibiza. The Barcelona version is from Port Ginesta and represents a total of 140 nautical miles, while the Denia version is from the Royal Nautical Club of Denia and represents 120 nautical miles. From this edition, the volume of participation, the formation of the category, the development of specific classifications and the delivery of trophies to the multicascos is guaranteed by the incorporation of the French shipyard Bali and its distributor in Spain MedCat Group, which have committed themselves to participating with a large number of catamarans and to sponsoring the trophies of the multicascos category.
Multihull Rally & Race
It is an event created exclusively for the catamarans and trimarans of cruise. It is based on a festive and social philosophy, which includes both the Rally format, to bring together the lovers of this type of boat, and the Race format, for the sailors who enjoy healthy competition. On Saturday, May 6, in the member ports of Multihull Friendly Marinas: Port Adriano, Sant Carles Marina and CN Estartit, the exit of the rallies to Port Ginesta will be held. A flotilla navigation to promote the construction of the shipowners community. The following weekend, on May 13 and 14, the main event takes place in Port Ginesta. On Saturday the "mile launched" is organized, in which each boat has several attempts to mark the best time to travel a mile with wind through and the night is extended with a dinner for all crews and the Multihull Festival with live music. On Sunday 14, the 25-mile coastal race is held, along the beautiful coast of the Garraf, followed by the trophy delivery and the closing party.
