The first event of the year of the world Olympic windsurfing, with 150 participants from 35 countries, has come to an end today in Lanzarote... the Andalusian Pilar Lamadrid, number 1 of the world ranking, has managed to pass to the final and to seal definitely the one that is his first victory of the season and second consecutive on the Canary island... the Polish Pawel Tarnowski gives the bell and achieves victory after a final infarction (Photo Sailing Energy)

The iQFOiL Games have been fired on Saturday with a day of infarction and fantastic conditions of 15 to 20 knots of wind somewhat changing in direction, which has only added emotion to how each Olympic windsurfer would play his cards in the fantastic Ranzarote field.

These ingredients have been played in the waters of the Canary Island the Medal Series, in which only the 10 best classified have participated, and which have culminated in an end to everything or nothing in which they have competed only the three best in the male and female category. Pawel Tarnowski (POL) has been victorious of it and is proclaimed champions of the iQFoil Games 2023.

After a large semifinal, the only Spanish in the Medal Series, Pilar Lamadrid, and the Israeli Shahar Tibi have managed to move to the Final to face it the provisional leader, Sharon Kantor (ISR), automatically classified yesterday... Pilar showed aplomo at all times, with a good way out and passing the first beacon of the course in the head, a position he no longer abandoned, crossing the line of arrival in the first place and winning in the lanzarote iQFOIL Games.

Israel takes the second and third podium drawer, with Shahar Tibi in the second square while the young Sharon Kantor, second and first throughout the championship, takes the bronze.

After the quarterfinals and the semi-finals, Polish Pawel Tarnowski and the current iQFoil European champion, French Nicolas Goyard, were able to access the Final. In it they have faced the British Sam Sills, who has clearly dominated the entire championship by winning more than half of the tests he has played these days.

With a classification system in which sportsmen play all at one card in the Final, any unexpected is paid expensive, although the emotion is served. And that's what we saw today 20 meters from the arrival line.

Sam Sills and Pawel Tarnowski approached the arrival at high speed, with the Polish leading the time the British approached him dangerously. Right at that time, 20 meters from the end, Tarnowski goes to the water and a second later does Sills, while French Nico Goyard continues to them in third place.

The Polish wins, for the first time in his career, a test of the iQFOil Games. Happy, he wanted to dedicate victory to his wife and to his future first son.

The final award was given by the presence of María Martín, Lanzarote European Sports Destination; representatives of the City Council of Yaiza, Daniel Medina - councillor of Youth and Culture - and Ángel Domínguez - councillor of Turismo -; Ron Meir, president of the iQFOil class; Felipe Brito, vice-president of the Royal Canary Federation of Vela and Rafael Lasso, CEO of Marina Rubicón.

This international event has been organized by Marina Rubicón with the support of the Royal Canary Federation of Vela and has been possible thanks to the institutional sponsorship of Promotur Turismo de Canarias with the funding of the REACTEU Fund and of Tourism of the Cabildo de Lanzarote through the sports product European Sports Destination (managed by SPEL-Tourism Lanzarote), as well as the public collaboration of the City of Yaiza and the private entities Dinghycoach, Naviera Armas and Cabrera Medina (Cicar).

2023-01-27: The lanzarote iQFOil Games with the medals series in sight

Penultimate day, which has been used to define who will be in tomorrow's Medal Series to fight for a hole in the most final... Sam Sills (GBR) and Sharon Kantor (ISR) pass directly to her by already securing a post on the podium of the first world event of the iQFoil season, the Olympic class of windsurfing in Paris 2024

The iQFOil Games have celebrated the fourth and penultimate day of competition in which the slalom format has also come into play: an explosive and super fast race.

No change in the female provisional podium, formed one more day by Sharon Kantor (ISR), Pilar Lamadrid (ESP) and Katy Spychakov (ISR). The three have won their respective slalom tests and are clearly separated from the rest of the fleet, especially the current leader and Andalusian.

Both have clearly made the difference these days, but everything is completely open for tomorrow Saturday as Lamadrid and Spychakov still have to ensure the pass to the Grand Final, and from this one, the one that crosses the line of arrival in the first place will be the winner of this edition of the Lanzarote iQFoil Games.

The Spanish Nicole van der Velden has signed a third place on one of the sleeves of the day and remains at the gates of the Medal Series at the end of the eleventh of the general.

The Olympic subchampion in Tokyo, the French Thomas Goyard, and the Israeli Yoh Omer have imposed themselves on the slalom test, a victory that has however been insufficient for them to be able to move on to the Medal Series.

Sam Sills (GBR), leader in Lanzarote from the first day, managed to move directly to the Grand Final, even if he had not had his best day: (DNC / 43) - (31) -12-1. The current world champion of iQFOil, Sebastian Kördel (GER) also manages to enter the Medal Series from the tenth provisional square.

As she said yesterday, the Israeli windsurfer Sharon Kantor has had a nice fight with the Spanish Pilar Lamadrid since the first day and today, after two days to two and one point of it, she has managed to pass it... at only 20 years old, Kantor, who already won yesterday's marathon, took the cat to the water in the first two races while in the next two years she was relegated by her compatriot Katy Spychakov, third of the general.

As for the rest of the Spaniards in the fleet, Nicole van der Velden is able to climb positions day by day and is eleventh after this third day. The Majorcan Andrea Torres, of the CN Arenal and champion of Spain sub-21, is eighth in the youth classification and thirty-second in the absolute.

For the third day in a row, Sam Sills (GBR) is able to be at the top of the general, with two new partial wins, and there are eight of 11. The British is 20 points away from his maximum persecutor, Nicolas Goyard (FRA), with one lime and one sand on this third day: 2-2-29-15.
