The Bay of Palma is one of the most solvent race fields in the world. But there are conditions that are not conducive to him. When the prevailing wind is very loose north-east and the sky is in place, the possibilities of being able to compete are limited. In these circumstances, the Embat cannot be counted. Unfortunately, the last two days of the 71st Ciutat Trophy of Palma have been affected by this panorama and it has not been possible to carry out one of the last six tests planned. No other sport is as conditioned by weather as sailing.

However, the race organized by the Real Club Náutico de Palma, the oldest of the Balearic Islands, will be able to deliver its trophies this afternoon thanks to the fact that the first two days (Sunday and Monday) were given six exits and their corresponding arrivals to each of the four groups in which the fleet was divided, made up of more than 300 ships of the Optimist class from 18 countries.

The victory of the Ukrainian optimist more than deserved

The exhibition of the Ukrainian Sviatoslav Madonna, with five first and the discard of a ninth in the only two days of competition, ended up being decisive. The young regatist of Odessa, resident in Italy since the beginning of the Russian invasion at the end of February this year, rose with the victory and entered his name in the crest of the historic Silver Carabela of the Real Club Nautico de Palma (RCNP), organizer of the event since 1950.

The Mallorcan Hugo Rodríguez, of the Nàutic S'Arenal Club, hung the silver medal, just two points from the champion. He closed the Joan Domingo podium of the Nàutic Club of Cambrils, thanks to its regularity the two days of race and the fact that a black flag could be ruled out. Blanca Ferrando, representing the Royal Nautical Club of Valencia, fourth in the general, was the best female regatist.

The Ciutat Trophy of Palma has been exclusive of the Optimist class for the first time in its 71 years of history. "We wanted to focus the organizational effort on the children's sailing, one of the symbols of our engagement as a club," adds the sports manager of the RCN of Palma... being part of this year's Circuit Excellence Cup 2022-2023, the Spanish race league of Optimist, which has led to the final participation of 330 ships.

2022 71st - FINAL CLASSIFICATION

2022-12-05: Ukrainian Sviatoslav Madonna continues to head the Ciutat de Palma

The Ukrainian regatist Sviatoslav Madonna remains the leader of the 71 Ciutat Trophy of Palma after the second day disputed today in the waters of the Bay of Palma. The sixth ranked in the last World Cup of the Optimist class, the number 1 serial head, agreed to the final phase as indisputable favorite to award the victory and to register its name in the Carabela de Plata of the Real Club Nautico de Palma, organizer of the competition since 1950. Five partial wins in six sleeves and the discarding of its worst result (one ninth) placed Madonna with only five points in front of a fleet of more than 300 ships from 18 countries.

The Majorcan Hugo Rodríguez, of the Nàutic S'Arenal Club, won the two tests of the day in his group and climbed to the second square, just two points from Madonna. It closes the provisional podium Joan Domingo of the Nàutic Club of Cambrils, although today it was penalized with a black flag in the first race, which can be ruled out. Joan Bennéssar, from the Real Club Náutico de Palma, who began the day as a leader with Madonna (both with four first yesterday Monday), did not have his day and fell to the sixth square, thanks to a 37th of which he could dispense with and a 17th that he had to add to his locker.

The best regatists in the fleet have been included in the Oro Group, so that the next two days will face each other directly.
