Three members of the Spanish Sailing Team suffer an assault in Rio at gunpoint
The Spanish Team of Nacra 17, who will participate in the next Olympic Games in Rio, and who is training in the city of Carioca, suffered an assault in the first hour of the morning in the middle of the street as they were heading for breakfast in the middle of Santa Teresa.
Olympic champion Fernando Echávarri, world and European champion Tara Pacheco and his coach, also world champion Santi López- Vázquez, were approached by five people armed with two guns. Fortunately they did not suffer personal damage.
Ópez- Vázquez explained after the event that "were five minors with two guns. I have been robbed of all the work instruments we were carrying at that time. It has been a very unpleasant experience," the coach of the Royal Spanish Federation of Vela.
The lack of security is Rio, one of the most concerned points of the teams, and in this case it has been three members of the Spanish team who have suffered the violence that lives in Rio de Janeiro less than three months after the Olympic meeting.
The 470 Spanish Olympic Team is also located in Rio de Janeiro and in the next few hours they will travel the RS: X and Laser.
Fernando, Tara and Santi want to forget what happened as soon as possible and focus only and exclusively on the training they are doing, with the views put on great Olympic date.
