A total of 24 athletes from the National Absolute Team travel today to Lucerne to face the most important competition of the season, the Olympic Classic Regatta, which begins on Sunday, May 22. About 400 athletes from 47 countries will see their faces in this decisive test to fight for one of the places at stake in the 14 Olympic modalities that will be held in Rio '2016.
The Spanish team will participate in Lucerne with seven vessels, the components and possibilities of which are as follows:
- 2-F: Anna Boada and Aina Cid. The female couple will see faces with 11 rival countries (Argentina, Chile, China, Croatia, Czech Republic, Italy, Norway, Poland, Russia, Serbia and Ukraine). If you can finish in the first 4 positions, you will get your place for the JJOO '16.
- 2xM: Joaquín Montero and Aleix Martí. They will also face 11 rivals (Argentina, China, Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Norway, Poland, Russia, Serbia, Ukraine and the US), but they will have it more difficult as there are only two places at stake.
- 4-M: Javier García, Jaime Canalejo, Ismael Montes and Antonio Guzmán.The quartet must finish 1 or 2 if you want to be in Rio. In this modality there will be 6 participating boats (Argentina, Czech Republic, France, New Zealand, South Africa and Serbia), as well as Spanish.
- 1xF: Virginia Díaz.The skiffist will not have it easy and it will face 12 rivals (Belarus, Denmark, Great Britain, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Norway, New Zealand, Russia, Serbia and Ukraine) for one of the 3 places at stake for Rio.
- 2xLM: Adrià Mijtavila and Rodrigo Conde. They must end in the first two positions if they want to be in the Olympic Games. To this end they have to exceed 12 vessels from Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Rep. Czech, Denmark, Greece, Hungary, New Zealand, Portugal, Slovenia, Turkey and Ukraine.
- 4-LM: Ander Zabala, Patricio Rojas, Marc Franquet and Imanol Garmendia.In this way, a total of 11 countries (Austria, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Indonesia, Japan, Poland, Russia, Serbia, Uzbekistan and, of course, Spain) will fight for the two places available for the Olympic meeting.
- - 8 + M: Marco Sardelli, Sergio García, Óscar Alonso, Noé Guzmán, Jon Carazo, David Prada, Marcelino García, Jaime Lara and the Témonel Tomás Jurado.The Spanish Eight must get one of the first two positions to be in Rio. It will have only four rivals, but to which more complicated. The US and Australia, two great powers in this mode; Poland, which has been present in the last three Olympic dates; and Italy, which was made with the silver medal in the I Regata of the World Cup this year.
The Olympic Classical Regatta will begin this Sunday at 10 a.m. with the elimination dispute. On Monday 23, the semi-finals will be held and on Tuesday 24, it will be the turn of the long-awaited final that will decide which boats will have a place at the Rio Olympic Games.
