The battle for victory among the multicasks was dramatic. The unusually slow pace did not prevent the emotion from remaining until the very line of arrival. The Italian MOD70 Mana stopped the crone at 00: 32 in the morning of Wednesday, scoring a discreet time of 61 hours, 32 minutes and 38 seconds, but only 54 seconds ahead of his French twin Zoulou. The 100-foot Maxi Leopard 3 has won the 43rd Rolex Middle Sea Race in a single-hull category. This is the second title for the ship patronized by Chris Sherlock, which was on board with the Spanish Guillermo Altadill and Antonio 'Ñeti' Cuervas- Mons. Among the multicascos, the first to cross Malta's finish line was the MOD70 Mana.
In contrast to the fast edition 2021 that was closed with two records in monocasco and multicasco categories, the 43rd Rolex Middle Sea Race today erected the winners in real time with some discreet records that testify to the light breeze conditions that accompanied the fleet around Sicily. The Farr design crossed the line of arrival in La Valeta at 10: 54h on Tuesday, October 25, after 70 hours 34 minutes 8 seconds confirming its second real victory after that obtained in 2009. The Salutting Battery cannons marked the moment when the 118 participating ships were to start their Sicilian circumnavigation including the passage of two active volcanoes and a number of islands and islets.
The weather part announced very soft breezes for the beginning of this forty-third edition, but the seven exits in which the fleet was distributed were able to take place without problems, and with the sun fall of this first day the entire fleet was on its way to Capopassero, in the southeast end of Sicily, the first forced passage point for the ships.
The forecast makes it unlikely that the records of multicasques and monocasques established last year will be threatened. On this occasion, an exciting tactical competition is expected that will test the patience and preparation of the crews, their ability to work as a team and their ability to navigate.
