American businessman and philanthropist Wendy Schmidt, at the helm of Deep Blue, has been the first to cross the line of arrival, becoming the first woman to win the test. The square has been for Arca de Furio Benussi and the third position for Portopiccolo Prosecco Doc.

Organized by the Nautico Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano, this marine event is considered one of the most unique nautical events in the world. An event that attracts thousands of professional and amateur regatists and more than 300,000 visitors to the city of Trieste to enjoy the impressive picture with hundreds of boats walking the Gulf.

Barcolana is the largest sailing race in the world... and is held every year in Trieste on the second Sunday of October. Organized in collaboration with the Municipality of Trieste, the regional government of Friuli Venezia Giulia and its main sponsor Generali, and with the support of many sponsors, the 50th edition of the annual meeting, held on Sunday, October 14, 2018, had the participation of 2,869 boats, a new world record for a sailing race. The 50th edition attracted more than 300,000 people to Trieste, which shows that it is one of the most popular events in Italy. Barcolana was one of the few sports events that took place in Europe during the Covid pandemic, from 3 to 11 October 2020. In 2021, the second year of Covid, the event brought together 1,650 ships on the starting line.
