On the same date as its fifth centenary, the new Ocean Trophy Juan Sebastián Elcano will promote, regulate and certify the sailing circumnavigation to the west, with an official line of departure and goal in Sanlúcar de Barrameda... a planetary counter-watch, which can be considered the greatest sporting challenge, for the time of competition and the distance travelled, the oldest, being based on the real history of 500 years ago, and the cleanest, by demanding the regulation a sustainable circumnavigation, without generating any residue or emission of CO2... the new ocean challenge, born with the institutional support of the Spanish Ministry and the National Council of the Republic of the Republic of Andalusia and the first anniversary of the city of the city,

The Castle of Santiago, in Sanlúcar de Barrameda, has witnessed the presentation of the new Ocean Trophy JS Elcano, with which it is intended to connect past, present and future, making the historic adventure of the first circumnavigation, the greatest sports challenge in the world.

The official tour will begin in the town of Sanlúcar de Barrameda, from which will face the crossing and descent of the Atlantic. The passage of South America, one of the great difficulties of the great journey, can be made to the open sea, through the mythical Cape Horn (Chile) or the Strait of Magallanes.

From there, the route will cross the entire Pacific Ocean, to the Torres Strait (north of Australia) and the Indian Ocean, to the Cape of Good Hope (South Africa). The Atlantic route will reach the island of Flores, to the northwest of the Azores (Portugal), the last milestone of forced passage, before the arrival to the finish line, again in Sanlúcar de Barrameda.
