Coinciding with the arrival and reception of the fleet of ships from Muxía, carrying out the second journey of the fourth stage of the route Getaria - Sevilla organized by the associations AGNYEE and ITSSAZTEN among the many activities aimed at commemorating the V centenary of the first circumnavigation of the planet under the command of the navigator Vasco Juan Sebastián Elcano, the Virazo Association has organized a series of cultural events aimed at twinning between sailors from different parts of Spain, the promotion of the nautical culture and the dissemination of the local historical characters linked to the sea.

On the occasion of the commemoration of this historic event, and organized by the association Itsasamezten (Euskal Herriko Kapitan, Patroi eta Itsazaldeen Elkarte- Basque Association of Captains, Patrons and Navigators), in collaboration with Agnyee (the Association of Friends of the Great Spanish Sailors and Scouts), the Guetaria Nautical Trip is convened - Sevilla The journey, consisting of a navigation not competitive, but in a conserved, will take place along or in stages divided into sections, until, after 33 days of navigation, the 1,016.2 nautical miles that separate both localities.

One of the objectives, among many, of the navigation Getaria - Sevilla, is to promote the naval culture, the history and the characters that are part of our past. For this reason, on Saturday 20, and in the framework of this celebration, the figure of the retro-admiral of Viguese origin Don Casto Méndez Núñez, hero of Callao and the first to circumnavigate the world on board a frigate, the Numancia, will be honored.
