Spain has won five medals, one of them gold, in the World Championship of class 420 that has been held from 8 to 13 August in Hungarian waters of Lake Balaton. in which 24 Spanish teams from a total of 244 crews from 21 countries have participated.

The Andalusian Fernando and Carlos Flethes have proclaimed themselves world champions in male category, sharing the podium with the Catalan Sebastián Riquelme and Miquel Pérez, silver, and the baleares Ian Walker and Finn Dicke, bronze. In addition, in the female category the baleares Maria Perelló and Marta Cardona have been subchampions, also obtained in sub 17 by the canaries Miguel Ángel Morales and Alejandro Martín.

To the podiums of the Spanish squadron can be added the performance of other crews that have closed their participation in the world within the top ten of their categories. José Antonio Ruiz and Vicente Hernández have been six in sub 17. In the female category, Nora García de la Casa and Mariona Ventura have finished in fifth position, while Paula and Isable Laiseca, current 49er world champions, have been sextas in the 420 world. Also, in the male category Jaime Ayarza and Mariano Hernández de Torres have been sepmos, and their companions Marc Mesquida and Ramón Jaume, novios.

The competition started on Monday with a high wind conditions that have been maintained throughout the week, leaving even two days blank. Finally, of the twelve sleeves scheduled for the world, the male fleet has contested ten, while the women have sailed nine races and the sub 17 only eight.

The beginning of the 420 World Championship, which is being held this week in Hungary, has been resolved with a first day in which the Spanish crews have shown a very high level, copying the female podium and with positions of head in both sub 17 and in the male / mixed category. The Spanish participation is 24 teams out of a total of 244 crews from 21 countries.

The sisters Paula and Isabel Laiseca, who last Saturday proclaimed themselves world champions of 29 in Valencia, have started the world of 420 with two partial victories that place them at the head of a fleet of 61 boats. In addition to the impeccable start of the Canarian crew, the provisional podium after the first day in the female category is made up entirely of Spanish crews: the Catalan Nora García de la Casa and Mariona Ventura are second, and the baleares Maria Perelló and Marta Cardona third.

In total, in the absolute female category of 420, six national teams are competing. In addition to those mentioned, Susana Ridao and Daniela Mariño (8), Stella Enríquez and María Núñez (16), María Pascual and Marta Puigserver (25), Adriana and Helena Pérez-Canal (32), and Alejandra Pérez and Ana Bautista (43).

In the sub17 classification stands out the canary team formed by Miguel Ángel Morales and Alejandro Martín, seconds with a 1 + 2 partial in the inaugural day. In the same category, José Antonio Ruiz and Vicente Hernández (8), Nicola Sadler and Sofía Cavaco (13), Marisa Vicens and Fernando Barceló (20), Sara Díaz and Lola Hernández (25), and Marta Álvarez-Dardet and Paloma Flethes (34) compete.

Class 420 includes a category in which male and mixed vessels compete equally. There are three Spaniards in top 10, and the rest of the national representatives are, after this first day of race, among the top 20 in the world.

Baleares Ian Walker and Finn Dicke lead national representation in this category from the second position while their colleagues Marc Mesquida and Ramón Jaume are fourth. In the sixth position is the dupla of Jaime Ayarza and Mariano Hernández, and in the nova plaza are Fernando and Carlos Flethes. Pol Mateu and Alejandro de Maqua (12), Sebastián Riquelme and Miquel Pérez (13), and Javier Ojeda and Tomás Belló (18) also compete.

The competition started today, in Lake Balaton (Hungary) and will be held until next Saturday... if conditions allow, the fleet will face two races per day to complete a maximum of 12 tests... the first three days will be dedicated to the qualifying phase and the last three to the final phase, after which the new champions of the world of 420 will be known.
