The third edition of the Discoveries Race, a Spanish-Portuguese ocean race, faces the final stretch in which it is the fourth stage between the capital of Madeira, Funchal, and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Before the departure of the last stage the trophies were delivered in Funchal to the four ships participating in the stage of the queen between Sines and Funchal, of 508 miles, and they were by order of arrival in ORC, Swing and Protein 65 and in Open the Atlantis and the Künga. It was a very fast stage, but at the same time very hard, due to the strong winds.

The fleet sailed from Sines to Funchal very grouped and entered with just five hours of difference between the first and the last. These four ships have been joined for the final stage of Funchal to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, two more in category ORC, the Papoa de Sergio Acevedo, a Sun Fust 37 model from Tenerife and the Capa de Salvador Méndez, an Oceanis 323 from La Gomera.

At five o'clock in the afternoon, the departure from the waters of Porto in the direction of Sines was timely, in the passage through the buoy of dismarking the positions were: Swing, Sał Gabriel, Protein 65, Atlantis and Künga... the fleet will arrive in Sines between Monday and Tuesday.

2022-07-19: Discovery Race began in La Coruña, heading for Portosin

The Third Discovery Race is already a reality. La Coruña has been the departure of a new edition, the longest to date, with a tour of more than 1,000 miles from the exit from La Coruña and will be held at the end of August 7 in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

The first stage of 89 miles, the shortest of the five, will have as final Portosín, a night tour to start opening mouth and where the fleet is expected to arrive along the morning of this Wednesday. The second stage, 108 miles, will start on Thursday with the end in Porto.

Five ships have left this afternoon with the Tower of Hercules as a direct witness of an ocean race in stages that unites fraternally through the sea and the candle to Spain and Portugal.

Only one ship of the participants in this year's edition can become the only one, without being able to make the entire journey, in having made the journey into the three editions. It is the Protein 65 (CN of Sada) of Manuel Batallán, a Bavaria 49 Cruiser, first champion in ORC in 2017 and second in 2019. On the way out of La Coruña has also been the Künga (CN Punta Lagoa) of Jorge E.Mallo, it is a Sun Odyssey 45, which won the first edition in Open, but which was not in the second, and will now seek to repeat victory.

The ship of Funchal and Sada promise a closed fight for victory in this year's edition. The premiere are the Buen Vino Tinto (RCN Madrid) by Antonio Arenas and patroniado by Luis Martín, the largest ship on the Coruñesa exit. It is a Villiceli 65, which by length and crew, one of the most impressive in the fleet. From the Royal Nautical Club of La Coruña, the fleet will set out to the Royal Nautical Club of Portosin, in the middle of Muros and Noia.
