The 107-foot-long superyacht Green Eyes and the professional sailing team on board the VO65 Racing for the Planet rose with real-time victory after two days of conniving races in Cascais Bay.
The Mirpuri Foundation Sailing Trophy 2022, the annual trophy held on 9 and 10 July in Cascais (Portugal), concluded on Sunday night after two days of fierce and intense races. The festival of sailing in Portuguese Atlantic waters was held in perfect conditions typical of summer for the eighty-five ships that competed in five classes.
The race, created by the Mirpuri Foundation in 2020 to raise awareness and raise funds for the conservation of the marine environment, is organized in conjunction with the Cascais Naval Clube.
An impressive fleet of eighty-five ships was aligned in this year's edition to compete in five classes, including the high-end racing ships VO65 and VO70, NHC and SB20.
The junior Optimist category, an important aspect of the Mirpuri Foundation Sailing Trophy, had an international fleet that competed during the two days.
Thanks to an impeccable performance, Volvo Ocean Race winner Jack Bouttell and the professional team on board his Racing for the Planet VO65 on which Willy Altadill and Carlos Hernández sailed across the finish line with almost an hour of advantage over their Austrian rivals.
The conditions of Sunday, the second day of the race, were the opposite pole the previous day, and a strong wind that blew more than 20 knots occasionally resulted in a dramatic and exciting race.
In the frenzy cruise class, the VO70 Green Dragon and the superyacht Wally Green Eyes, from Paulo Mirpuri, were again grieved in the fleet's head for the coveted triumph.
In a change of luck, the giant superyacht managed to overcome the VO70 in conditions that were not easy and crossed the finish line with five minutes of advantage over the smallest Green Dragon.
The accumulated time of the two sleeves gave real-time victory to the largest ship, and thanks to this, the patron Paulo Mirpuri registered his name in the Mirpuri Foundation Sailing Trophy in the NHC division. The third real-time position was for the 45-foot Xekmatt boat, patrolling by Hugo Prista.
In compensated time, where the ships receive a tight time based on their handicap, the Rational - German Kitchens, a 40-foot Grand Soleil typed by Miguel Bunte Graça, won the first place in the NHC class.
While in the ORC A division, with Hugo Prista at the helm of his IMX 45 Xekmatt, he won in compensated time. In the B ORC division the 2hot 2Handle, an IMX 38, patronized by António Tânger Corrêa, rose with victory.
In the smaller ship divisions, the SB20 class of monotypes was led by pattern Stanislav Gordienko and his crew in BTeam.
In the junior category Optimist, a large fleet of young regatists contested the competitive division. The Mirpuri Foundation considers that the Optimist class is vital for the future of the candle and sponsors the Mirpuri Foundation's Academy of Sailing at the Cascais Naval Clube.
The international fleet, which included teams from the United States, Brazil and Finland, was the most difficult of the weekend. After fighting in the strong conditions of Sunday afternoon, Manuel Plantier was victorious, with Juliana Borba claiming second place in the class, as well as the first woman in the finish line. Tiago Santos went up to the last step of the Optimist podium.

The professional crew based in Cascais will sail on board their VO65 Racing for the Planet, patrolling by Volvo Ocean Race winner Jack Bouttell. Bouttell is accompanied on board by seven ocean elite regatists, including the Barceloness Willy Altadill and the lanzaroteño Carlos Hernández.
