The Jacobea O Cabaleiro das Cunchas Maritime Route was presented this morning on the trousers of the Bouzas Maritime Licensing and on one of the ships carrying the Grympola of the Cabaleiro das Cunchas, a presentation attended by Marta Fernández- Tapas, as Delegate of the Xunta de Galicia in Vigo, as a promoter of the expedition; as well as Javier Grande, President of the Association Friends of the Maritime Routes of the Apostle Santiago to Galicia; Tino Lores, President of the Association of the Friends of the Portuguese Way in Vigo; Miguel Miguel, Director of the Línea, and Director of the Lídiera (Vígica);

The great novelty of this year is that the Galician-Portuguese Route Marítima Jacobea O Cabaleiro das Cunchas; will join the fleet of the great sailboats Iacobus Maris on their arrival to the Ría de Vigo on July 22, the last stretch of the emblematic ships.

Divided in seven stages, the vessels of O Cabaleiro das Cunchas will travel different seaside villas of Galicia and the neighbouring country of Portugal, being that of the first tranche on July 15 between the Bouzas viguese and the Lusa of Póvoa de Varzim, with 57 nautical miles of journey, just over 100 km.; the second, on the 16, between Póvoa de Varzim and Aveiro, with 47 nautical miles, 87 km.; the third day of July 17 takes place in the city of the Portuguese channels, with different cultural routes through Aveiro.

On the fourth day of the Maritime Route, on July 18, they will sail to Vila Nova de Gaia, starting with the one dating from the Atlantic, with 35 mn., about 65 km, where they will coincide with the fleet of the Iacobus Maris. On July 19, the ships of O Cabaleiro das Cunchas will accompany on their departure to the Iacobus Maris, being on Wednesday 20 the approach to the Galician coasts with their arrival to Viana do Castelo, a route of 37 mn. about 70 km. On Thursday, July 21, the sailing boats of the O Cabaleiro Route will enter Baiona Bay, from the Portuguese Viana, with 33 mn. of course, just over 60 km.

On Friday, July 22, the fleet of the Jacobea O Cabaleiro das Cunchas Maritime Route begins a tour of extraordinary landscape beauty and a historic day of navigation, as after leaving Baiona and hondear near the Sands of the Cíes Islands, on a 14-minute route, about 25 km., you will accompany the great sailing of the Iacobus Maris at its entrance to the Ria de Vigo, sharing a historic day in the Jacobea navigation of the Maritime Routes.

In the initiative to strengthen this type of activities, O Cabaleiro das Cunchas promotes and supports other routes such as Sail the Way, El Camino a Vela, which is held from 24 June to 14 July, with departure from the port of La Rochelle, in the neighbouring country of Portugal, and arrival in Vilagarcio de Arousa.

The last day of O Cabaleiro das Cunchas will take the sailors by bus from Vigo to Vilagarcía, to walk the last kilometres to the Cathedral of Santiago, attending the Mass of the Pilgrim. Based on the Bouchese tradition recovered by one of its favorite children, Paulino Freire, the Route of O Cabaleiro das Cunchas is based on the Translácio of the body of the Apostle Santiago, reminiscent of the legend of the Cabaleiro das Cunchas, a medieval nobleman killed by a spear on the shores of Bouzas, succumbing to the same sea in the same way as the one of the one of the Marítio de la Cabaleiro, with the same sea, which is being held in the same way of the sea, and the same as the one of the one of the one of the one of its own.
