The Spanish Diego Botín and Florian Trittel are the new European champions of the Olympic category of sailing 49er. The Catalan cantabre team was formed after the Tokyo 2020 Games and have won their first gold in less than a year. In addition, this championship has been held in open format and the best teams in the world have participated. In 49er FX, Támara Echegoyen and Paula Barceló have ended up in the fourth European position in which it has been their first competition in their campaign towards Paris 2024.

With the first race of the day, Diego Botín and Florian Trittel, after adding a 12, were located seconds, just three points away from the gold that was once again in the hands of the Dutch Lambreix and they go from Werken. After this setback, the Catalan cantabre team won the last final phase test, which put them in front of the classification with eleven points of advantage over the seconds before starting the race for the medals.

At 16: 10 the 49th Medal Race was launched with a gold medal in play between the Spanish and Dutch teams. Botín and Trittel have sailed among the first of the fleet, with the Dutch team always from behind, thus securing the gold medal.

"European Champions... has been a little unexpected," said Florian Trittel, just getting to the ground. "The goal was obviously to be at the top and we have achieved it. It gives us much confidence to continue on this path and corroborates that we are in the line it touches. Thanks to everyone who has supported us from home and here in Aarhus. We are very happy."

In 49er FX, Támara Echegoyen and Paula Barceló took advantage of the first manga of the last day to enter into the positions of the medal race as septiles classified from the general and European fifths. The Spanish dupla followed with its good streak in the next sleeve to climb to the sixth general square, European quarters, just four points from the bronze.

In the medal race of his class, Echegoyen and Barceló were placed second in the way of the first buoy and remained so until the last bars of the race. The Italian Germani / Bertuzzi, who defended the bronze medal, stood in front of them, making the Spanish finish the final race in the third position.

It should be noted that this was the first competition of Echegoyen and Barceló in their campaign towards Paris 2024 and that they also had to withdraw in the last race of the first day for a break of material. The final result has been a worthy fourth European position and fifth position in the general open classification. The global victory has been for the Brazilian Grael and Kunze and European gold for the Dutch Aanholt and Duetz.

Patricia Suárez and María Cantero ended the competition as the tenth best European crew. In the open classification they were in position 14, so they could not compete in the medal race to try to improve their final result.

The Spanish Diego Botín and Florian Trittel remain at the forefront of the 49er classification after the only race today in the waters of Aarhus, Denmark, where the penultimate day of the European Championship is left blank for excess wind for the 49er FX and the Nacra 17.

Támara Echegoyen and Paula Barceló, the first national crew in 49er FX, have thus been deprived of the opportunity to scratch posts in the general (11th Open, 7th Europe) to enter the coveted Top10 that seals the passport to the Medal Race.

The organization has modified the program set for tomorrow Sunday, including two more races for the gold groups of 49er and 49er FX and for the Nacra 17 before the Medal Race.

The Spanish team, made up of Diego Botín and Florian Trittel, has been in the first provisional position of the 49er European Championship in Aarhus, Denmark. In 49er FX, Támara Echegoyen and Paula Barceló occupy the seventh position.

The first day of the end has been fruitful for Botín and Trittel, who have started with two partial wins to access the first post. A fifth in the last test of the day keeps them at the highest and gives the Catalan pitcher dupla six points of advantage over the second classified, the Dutch Lambriex and van de Werken. On the front, the Spaniards have one more day of fleet competition before competing in Sunday's medal race, reserved for the top ten classified.

In 49er FX, Támara Echegoyen and Paula Barceló are in the seventh European position and are the seventeenth crew in the general classification open, as they sail teams from non-European countries. The Spanish tandem has started the day with a fourth place but a 25 and a 12 in the following tests has made them leave the provisional top 10.

In the 18th place of the general, and as the 17th European, are Patricia Suárez and María Cantero, who today have signed their most discreet results of the competition: 22 + 6 + 22.

Tomorrow Saturday, the gold groups of the 49er and 49er FX will fight the last sleeves of the final phase before closing the pass to the race through the Sunday medals, a non-disposable double score sleeve in which only the top ten of each category will compete.
