The J80 Newind Food of the Royal Maritime Club of Santander, by Daniel de la Pedraja and with Javier Padron to the cane, is proclaimed winner of the Spanish Cup of J80... the podium is completed with the Basque team Biobizz of Jose Azqueta and the local Fredo la Estrella del Norte, of the world's bicampoon of J80 José María Torcida

With five disputed tests, and the expected discarding of the worst result with the fifth scheduled test, a Spanish Cup of J80 is considered to have been completed, fought against wind and tide by the almost thirty vessels participating in Santander waters.

The closing day, with two sailing races, has offered light winds and a powerful sea of more than one and a half meters high wave that has made navigation in the open santanderin complicated.

A second position - and without taking part in the last test - has served the local RCMS Newind Food team of Daniel dela Pedraja to revalidate title and confirm its favorite status.

While the Newind Food was already known for the title, with two first and two seconds on its score, Regata 5 saw a very duel for scratching points between the Biobizz of Jose Azqueta, Fredo Estrella del Norte de Torcida and Mercury Avator of Jaime Piris, in a fight without barracks for the two remaining podium squares.

Finally, and in extremis, the podium was ordered with the team Biobizz of José Azqueta in second place and with a single mattress point on the place Fredo Estrella del Norte, of José María Torcida, on the third step.

Fourth has been the Andalusian team GB Bullhound of Pepequín Orbaneja, while the Cantabre Solintal of Ignacio Camino is fifth.

2022-06-16: The Spanish Cup of J80 opens the International Sailing Week of Santander

30 teams representing the Basque Country, Galicia, Andalusia, Valencia and Cantabria will take part in the national test organized by the Royal Maritime Club of Santander between Thursday 16 and Sunday 19 June

The Royal Maritime Club of Santander last preparations to start the Spanish Cup of J80 since Thursday. The expectations have been met and in line with the national title are already registered 30 participating teams from Galicia, País Vasco, Andalucía, Comunidad Valenciana and Cantabria.

The inaugural meeting of the International Sailing Week of Santander City is free from Thursday with a day of registration and technical inspections of the ships, while on Friday from 15: 00 will start the first of the nine races scheduled until Sunday. The competition area will be located in the open, in front of the Sarmono, in one of the usual regatta fields of Santander and which is frequently used since the 2014 Olympic World Championship.

The well-known RCMS regatta committee, this time under the command of Arianne Mainemare, has selected a second race field within the Bay of Santander in case of adverse conditions in the open.

As a novelty, the 15th Cup of Spain of these monotypes (completely equal ships) J80 will be held in categories Absolute, Juvenile (minimum pattern and two crew under 25 years) and Mixed (at least 40% of the crew must be of different gender). The rise in the mixed category in this edition of the International Week is more than obvious, with a significant number of women actively taking part in the tests that the Royal Maritime Club of Santander organizes every weekend.

Among the 30 J80 participants is the units that took the podium of the 2021 Spanish Cup, with the current owner of the title Newind Food and Javier Padron as patron, Fredo La Estrella del Norte under the command of the two-time world champion of J80 José María Torcida and the Mercury Avator of Jaime Piris, the three members of the RCMS.

The Biobizz team of Jose Azqueta (Euskadi champion 2022), Raitán with Angel Herreerías de patrador (Cantabria champion 2022), the GP Bullhound with Gustavo Martínez Doreto (Subchampion of Andalusia 2022), or the Solintal team of the World Champion of J80 Ignacio Camino are other teams to be followed very closely.
